A friend who is insterested in checking out geocaching just got a Magellen GPS 2000 off e-bay for $40.  Personally, I think that's way to much for a nine year old unit.

However, has anyone used one for caching and have any thoughts.  I guess it could be servicible for the first so many caches, but since you can't connect it to a computer to load waypoints or update its software, I don't think they'd use it very long.

I tried to get her to tell me what she was bidding on, but never heard back until she got it in.

Certainly would not be my first choice for a geocaching unit, but a seasoned GPS user could probably make do with it in a pinch. Being her first I hope its lack of abilities does not discourage her from the sport.
I agree with you also on the price. A few dollars more and probably could have picked up a Garmin eTrex yellow. When she does decide to move up to a better unit may also have trouble getting any money back out of that old unit.

Yeah.  I think she's already considering more or less pitching it and moving onto the Garmin she's bidding on.  Wish she'd tell me what model that is.
