It would be very nice if there was a "Cache Import" feature where you could provide a gc.com cache page URL to enter a new cache.  The cache import would only work if your Navicache login name was the same as your gc.com login name.

I see that you are running on a Linux server.  I would be more than happy to write a shell script to snag the data and output it into a format that you could integrate with your system.

This would make it very easy for people to dual list their existing caches, and also to make their cache data "Open".

I believe that would violate the geocaching.com terms of use

Cross-listing your own caches on multiple listing sites does not violate any terms of service I know of. Now, it's usually done by typing in the same information at multiple sites. Most people probably simplify the task by copying and pasting from one site to the other (or from a common source to multiple listing sites). If Navicache offered a script to do it in a more automated fashion, gc.com might accuse Navicache of violation of terms of use. More likely, they'd just block Navicache's server from access to gc.com's servers. So, I don't think such a feature would work for long.

The best approach is for someone to write a standalone application than users can download and run on their own computer. The application would snag the data from whatever listing service they specify and submit it to whatever other listing service they want. Provided you only snag your own cache data, this would not violate any site's terms of service.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. :)

Cache and log importation has been on our list of things to do for quite a while.

This is an excellent idea, but one of the undesirable results may be a blocking of the Navicache IP soon after the cache owner starts the importation process.

The increased traffic from Navicache would probably be flagged, and our IP would probably be blocked.

A client side program could get around this problem. :;):

As George has stated this is on our list and based on the start of another thread on the subject and the emails we recieve, the interest does seem to be there.

Unfortunately all listing sites are not like us in sgharing data so for reasons he (George) also pointed out, a server side script would not very ethical. There are other methods and we will explore them in an effort to provide such a service.
