Our caching group ran into 7 other cachers trying for a first to find at a newly posted cache... and it skunked all of us... 10 seasoned cachers... searching for a long time.
The failed to find logs only spurred on others from the neighboring communities.
Worse yet... it turned out all of us had picked up the cache... but never knew it.
We went back early the next day with some newbies... during the search, more cachers showed up with metal detectors, trying to get the first to find...
Wouldn't you know it... our newbies, on their 2nd cache hunt, actually found it.
Janis picked up the cache... the same one all of us had picked up the night before... and said "Nope, its not under this rock."... when Sean, who was 20 feet away said "Are you sure?" Sean spotted the lid of the cache...
The cache was camoflauged... as a rock!
The cache container (5 cup rounded tupperware) was allowed to dry in cement, held in place by a couple of screws.
The cement was colored with gray cement dye.
The camoflauged container was in plain site, near the base of a tree, with a slight coating of dirt and a few leaves... what fooled all of us was the weight... it felt right... we all lifted it up to look at the ground *underneath* the rock... but we never thought about actually looking *at* the rock.
Needless to say... this was a great lesson about mind set!
A 1/1 via the trail around the hill?
Nah... that's too easy! †Let's go up and over!
Why follow a trail when we can blaze our own?
We *make* mountains out of mole hills!
