If a cache is normally 3/3, and a deadfall trap is placed near the cache site, what would it raise the difficulty to? Or would it apply to terrain? Would it depend on how close to cache, or the weight of the deadfall? How about a tiger trap? How would that effect difficulty? How about with punji sticks?  ???

Clayjar was gonna work up a uniform rating system where a person could enter and answer questions about the cache placement which would generate a rating score so things would be a level field. I'll have to get in touch with him again and see if he still has an expressed interest or if maybe we need to generate one from within.
In the meantime I would have to say a tiger trap would rate an extra level but the punji sticks are no big deal if you wear the correct boots. ;)

ClayJar did. It's at ClayJar's Geocache Rating System

Thanks Scout! :)  I just e-mailed him to ask if we could place it on the Navicache site and give credit where credit is due!
I would also like to change the color layout a tad to match up with our color scheme. I'll keep you all updated on the outcome.

As silly as this may sound, this actually happened last year in the Sacramento Area, along the American River Parkway, albeit, not with a cache nor cacher.

A mentally challenged man in his thirties(?), with a mental equivalent of a nine(?) year old, dug multiple deadfall traps,  filled with punji sticks and/or nails along the floor of the trap, in order to catch a mugger who was preying upon bicyclists riding along the bike trail.

When the deputies finally convinced him that innocent people could also get hurt, he pointed out the locations of the traps (the ones he could remember).  [:(]

A 1/1 via the trail around the hill?
Nah... that's too easy!  Let's go up and over!
Why follow a trail when we can blaze our own? :p

We *make* mountains out of mole hills!

Actually that is not a deadfall trap. That is more of a tiger trap, or pitfall trap. A deadfall trap is where a heavy weight is suspended, and tied to a trip device, that will cause the weight to fall upon the cacher...er, I mean prey.

Although I know Hinge is having a little fun here I am uncomfortable with this subject even being brought up.  There are enough real nuts out there, lets not be giving anybody any ideas, IMO.
