Is there a "Button" for the Navicache Files Section anywhere? [I couldn't find one.]

How would I get to the Meridian Base Maps files without clicking on the link in the previous message?

Thanks...

we were just feeling this option out to see just how active it would be, we wanted to make sure that we did not get over run with activity on these downloads due to server space.
I'll see what is happening and get back to you here. In the meantime please use the one above, I realize it may be a pain but at least it's a source for the time being. :)

Is the meridan land basemap version 1.01 or 1.03. If it is version 1.01 can someone upload vesion 1.03. I hate the fact that version 1.01 is missing large lakes (like great salt lake) at certain zoom levels.

Uh yeah I had 1.03, but put in the marine version before I rembered the problem with 1.01.

Great to have these additional maps but I would love to see an Australian base map. Surely someone in Oz must have one that they can down load. regards Richard

Hello Richard! :wave

If and when we get a hold of it, we'll post it! :)

We're rather lucky to have flat rate phone and ISP service here in the States... I don't know if this is true for Australia... this may be one of the stumbling blocks.

Do these basemaps cover all models of the Magellan? I'm thinking the file is too big for the Base model's 2Mb memory - or is there an option to select the model before download to the GPS? What program do you need to download this file to the meridian?

I am looking at buying a Meridian, and I'm asking these questions because I'm trying to narrow down my choices.

No, they don't.

The only base model (Green/Yellow) basemap available on the site is the North American map. :(

The program is MagUp.exe, which is included in the firmware upgrades.

You may want to consider the MeriGold or MeriPlat if you want the ability to switch base maps (requires uploading at the present time... version 3.12 of the MeriGold/Plat/Marine firmware has a non-implemented menu option for switching basemaps... a hint of things to come?). :grinnin

You may consider e-mailing Quinn... I believe he has his MeriGold up for sale.

Have fun!

Thanks for your comments George. It sounds like it's time to upgrade the PC to something with USB.

Another question - Supposing you have a Mapsend map loaded into memory, at what zoom level does the Meridian drop back to the base map? I know there are 4 different settings, but Magellan does not mention the parameters in the user manual.

???

You're welcome.

All zoom levels use the base map.

The detailed map is overlayed on the base map when the scale(zoom level) is >= 500 ft and <= 1.6 miles. :)

Isn't it possible to download the extra maps to a SD card??

There are two types of maps in the Meridian's. :)

The main map is the base map - only one can be loaded in the GPS at the present time... and there is a non-implemented(or we haven't figured out how to use it) menu option for base map loading in firmware version 3.12, so perhaps in the future, we may have the ability to easily switch base maps.  The original question was referencing the base maps.

The secondary type is the detailed map, which is overlayed on top of the base map, and requires an MMC/SD card.

You can have as many detailed maps (loaded via an MMC/SD card reader/writer) on the MMC/SD card as space permits, and easily switch between them, or you can create one large detailed map, and not switch at all.

Smaller detailed maps load faster than one large detailed map. :)

I hope this clears things up. :)

Welcome to NaviCache! :)

Which Meridian model do you have?

Is it a Meridian Green, Yellow, Gold, or Platinum?

I have a Meridian Green. :D

I'm sorry to say that there is no way (at the present time) to change the basemaps on the Meridian Green (and Yellow). :(

The Meridian Green/Yellow stores the basemap, firmware, waypoints, routes, etc, into the same physical eeprom (vs the Gold/Platinum/Marine, which stores the basemap into a separate eeprom).

Hence, one of the reasons for the cheaper price.

The other side effect of using a single eeprom is that the eeprom cannot be opened for writing while the GPS is running, thus your active route, track, new waypoints, etc, cannot be stored (transfered from DRAM to eeprom) until you power off the GPS.

This means that you should turn off your Meridian Green as soon as you get a low battery warning, otherwise, you may loose all of your new waypoints, tracks, routes, etc. (current is too low to open eeprom for writing).

The alternative is to periodically power off the Meridian Green, or power off after each new waypoint.

Sorry about the bad news,

George

Where are the meridian basemaps? This link
http://www.navicache.com/meridian_basemaps/
is not working anymore.

Is there another link or are the basemaps no longer available?

Thanks,ED

Ed,

We still have the basemaps but are wondering what to do with them at the moment... you see we did not expect the Huge amount of traffic those maps would generate to the website via the links we had in place. Now with the traffic that is rolling in our bandwidth has been going nuts and is close to reaching it's limits.
We are looking for a way to provide these maps to our friends (people that come to the site) and at the same time keep within our range.

We will make a notice here very soon as to the outcome and what you can do to get these. :)

The baeemaps are again available via the original links.
A small change to the method of obtaining them may be made in the future and instructions will be posted here when that happens.

Hi, I'm based in England and have a Meridian Platinum with the European Basemap (V1.0). I'm visiting the USA next week and would like to load the US basemap. I've checked the links and it appears that this should be possible.

I've downloaded the approriate ZIP file and had a look at it. It seems OK. Of course when I get back I'll want the European basemap back. I downloaded the European ZIP file and this just contains a .DAT file.

Does anyone know if this is sufficient and if so, how do I use it? I don't want to get half way and then find I can't undo the changes I made!!

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

OK I tried uploading the new map and the upload stopped with a message saying I was trying to update the wrong unit. It seems that a unit with a European Basemap cannot be updated to use a US map and vice versa.

Comments?
