you mean the map or the actual main page of it?
I found that the map loaded very slowly but then scout added two options for broadband and fast cpu. I clicked on Broadband and the map loades very quickly now.
Before I would have to wait like 30 seconds before it let me in.

Ya know, I'm so fed up with this d*#^  IE 6.0. Every time I want to go to the geodashing site or the minute war site, I've got to get out of IE 6 & go there by way of Netscape or Opera. I know we've been down this road before, but I can't figure out why most other folks with IE6 have no problem & no matter what I do, errors prevent me from viewing anything on either site. Anywhere else I go on the net, IE6 is lightning fast & I have no problems. -- End of rant-- :0o

Uh oh...

The puzzling thing is why others with IE6 (including me) have no problems and you do. I'm willing to take another stab at debugging this with you, but it'll have to wait until we sort out a mess with mixed up reports caused by a Yahoo bottleneck yesterday.

What error do you get when you try to bring up MinuteWar?

I'm getting the same thing I was getting months ago when we talked about it. Whenever the geodashing or minute war page starts to open, down in the lower left corner, it says error with that freakin yellow triangle. When I click on the error icon, box comes up with a message that says "error=object expected, line= some number, charachter=unknown" etc. It has to have something to do with javascript. I posted on a local forum up here run by some computer geeks that have a radio show dealing with problems like this, & they sent back saying it's how microsoft now works with java. I've got virtual machine loaded & in trying to solve this, I've now got about 4 different java apps. loaded too. Not to mention having Netscape & Opera loaded on my system too. I think the fact that I've got so much junk on here isn't helping matters. I think I'm going to start from scratch. I went out today & picked up 2 new 40 gig. hard drives. I'd really appreciate some input from you folks on operating system. Right now I'm running Windoze98 SE. I've also got registered copies of Windoze98 & ME.(yup, what a bargain it was paying for ME). Any thoughts on Windoze 2000 or XP. If I'm going to do it, I'd really like to do it right. I haven't had any real problems with SE,other than the IE 6.0 thing, but if I'm building from the ground up, might just as well upgrade (if there is an upgrade) :rotflmao

I suspect the root cause of the problem is really with my Javascript. Trouble is, I don't know of any way to ensure correct Javascript other than thoroughly testing it on as many browser/OS combinations as possible. I've tested the most on Windows 98/IE 5.5, Windows NT/IE5.5 and Windows XP Home/IE6. And I don't get any errors (anymore). And dozens of others are using the same pages without reporting errors. So, whatever the problem is, it's subtle.

But, if you send me the details again, I'll take another try at figuring out where the source of the trouble is.

Minimization of variables really helps with trouble shooting. :)

FWIW - I may be biased in my opinion... my experience with WinXP RC 1 was not a pleasant one... it didn't like my multi-boot system(Dos 6.22/Win98SE/Win2K/linux) and decided to wipe the drive... there are still issues with mulit-boot systems.

I prefer Win2KPro with Service Pack 2, IE 5.5 SP2, and Zone Alarm(set to prompt you each time IE tries to access the net).

Win2K is truly multi-tasking, works well on multi-boot systems, and is more stable than Win98SE.

I do not allow IE to check for updates, nor do I allow auto-downloading.   It has been a very stable development system. :grinnin

On my non-development system drive, installation of Media Player 7 caused some compatiblity problems.

Nah... that's too easy!  Let's go up and over!
Why follow a trail when we can blaze our own? :p
