Ok...I myself wasn't exactly sure which topic to post this in so I decided to place it here. I have been looking into "scouts" "Geodashing" and found it to be a very interesting form of Caching in a competitive mode.
I have his site placed in the links section of Navicache and if any of you would like to make a team let me know and we'll see if we can give those other fellows a run for it.

Hey Quinn. If you want to throw together a team, I'm in. I've actually been a member on the Geodashing site for months now, but never did anything with it. I joined right after Scout started posting here. Does sound like a good time. I occasionally check out the board & they seem to be having a ball. I'm a Geodashing member under my Yahoo ID, "stronggary". :p

After posting this, I checked out my Yahoo mail box. I'm set up on the Geodashing site to receive e-mail there to keep up with whats going on there. I've got 570 messages from Geodashing. :rotflmao:

Great!...thats two then. Three more and we have a team. Maybe we can find an out-of stater down south or out west to join up also. What sucks is now that i look at the map I find I was about 10 miles from two of the points down hear Olean, NY today. I could have bumped them off.

I think I remember seeing Buxley registered there. Maybe he'd be interested if he's not on a team yet.
How does the geodashing map load for you? When I open eastern north america, all the crosses are there, but can't get anything when I click on 1. Message says "error on page".???

Thanks, Quinn, for adding this forum. Geocachers are more than welcome to check out and play Geodashing as well.

The two activities are complementary and many players combine the two on outings. Think of Geodashing as geocaching with virtual caches, no clues, no guarantees that you can even get there, and a little friendly competition to boot. It may be a particularly good choice for winter, as there are no caches to get buried in snow. (Also, no hassles ever about littering. :) It probably won't be as much fun for the little ones who like the treasure aspect of geocaching. Like I said, I think it makes a good complement to geocaching.

A NY team would be a great addition, as the current runaway leader in the game is from NY and he needs some competition.

Well so far it's me and Gimpy here in NY. Anyone else in NY good to go? perhaps Yardboy or skunkman?
Maybe even PC_Medic in VA Beach would like to team up for some points?
The only thing that sucks about having Gimpy for a team mate is that he can't go near soft ground or water...with all those GPSR's he takes with him he would most likely sink if he did :D

Hey,Quinn. I noticed on your post on the geodashing forum that you're running IE 6.0 & have no problems viewing the maps. I get errors that won't let me view any waypoints. I bumped back to IE 5.5, & same problem. Downloaded Netscape 6.2, & all works fine for viewing Geodashing map & waypoint info. But Netscape browser really seems like a dog. Everything takes twice as long to load. Still pretty fast with Roadrunner, but you know how much I hate to wait for anything. :D  Anybody have any opinions on the Netscape browser? ;)

Did you try the "repair" feature in IE ?
Could be one of the associated files on your system is corrupt.

Hi PC. Yup, tried that & nothing. But I think I've got it. When I'm on the Geodashing page & click on the map, I get redirected to the map page. But address comes up "group/geodashing/" etc, etc. Loads with errors. If I hit refresh, address comes up"http://groups/geodashing"etc.,etc. & everything works great. So I just refreshed the page & sent a link to my desktop. Now I can just go directly to the maps from the desktop & all works OK. Don't know why it works that way on my system, but as long as I can get the info, I'm happy.  ******Happy Thanksgiving to all.****** :D

Got dashpoint #1 today. GD5 04730. Nothing really inspiring about the dashpoint area, but we scored it nonetheless. Really interesting to be walking across a field full of brush, surrounded on 3 sides by hardwoods & pines, in the middle of hunting season. Had my blaze orange on or I would not have attempted it. 5 other guys out there donning blaze orange, & they weren't toting GPS units! And that wasn't fireworks I was hearing. Then I went after GD5 04697 & drove around every perimeter road & could not get any closer than .38 mi. from the dashpoint. Every strip of land from the road was either someones front yard or posted property. I'll have to check on geodashing.com & see how these points are picked. Don't see any way to get at this one. Since I was heading that far from home, I figured I'd go after GD5 04676 too, but by the time I got done screwing around trying to get 4697, daylight was gone. I took pics of both areas I was at, including assorted posted signs, & I'll post the finds on the web site a little later. :rotflmao:

The dashpoints are picked at random. Some are easy (drive-bys is the common term). Some are impossible. You can just head out to the dashpoint to find out which is which or do a little research ahead of time to find the ones that look the most interesting (the definition of "interesting" varies by player, by the way).

Hi everyone,

Quinn just invited me to join your team, and this post is to say "Thanks, I'd love to."

Game 7 has about a dozen dash points within a couple hours of my house in Portland, OR, and I hope to get most if not all of them this month.

Again, thanks for having me, and I look forward to getting to know the team.

Hey, Sue. Welcome. Great to have a new member. Some of the folks on the teams of the competition are ruthless. If you've looked at the summary for game 6 yet, you've seen that BOB is a dashing maniac. ???  Looking forward to some assistance. Thanks. :grinnin

Yes Sue...I would also like to welcome you, both to the Forums and also to the team. Gimpy who posted above is also a member on our dashing team, and you will also notice from time to time "Yardboy" popping in and out here as well.
It's great to hear there are many points in your area for dashing. These will without a doubt come in very handy point wise  :)
Scout! you can add Sue to our members list on team "Buxleys Navicachers", and with luck maybe we can move up in the ranks this game :p  As for Gimpy...  :withstupid

Don't worry team!   I didn't forget you guys. I have been on call this week but will get out the next weekend for some good dashing points. I also hope that business will pull me out of town so i can grab some on the way :)  Sue... you plotted any points out yet in your area?

I haven't done anything yet this game either. Kind of planning to head to PA next weekend. Waiting on the weatherman. Some decent dashpoints going down by way of Olean/Jamestown, a few OK ones in PA, & some OK ones coming back by way of Buffalo. If time allows, would like to leave a cache or 2 there, & find a few. Being right on Lake Erie in the winter could make it interesting, though. Plan on leaving early Sat. morning, returning Sun. night. Anybody else want to come & play? :p

Am I missing something here? On geodashing.org., dave hinns is reporting that he is racking up points for team buxleys. Is he part of the team? I certainly hope so, but saw no mention of it here.

Gimpy...looking at the scores it looks like Mr. Hinns is on his own and not on a team unless I am looking in the wrong spot. It has us as having 9 points (Ed, Sue and yardboy each with 3) is this correct?

On the Geodashing messages page, every time he logs a dashpoint, he states," points for me & team buxley" ?? I saw in the summary that he's counted as 9 pts. for himself, but wondering why when he logs points, he says they're for team buxley too.

Uh oh... We have a problem.

I checked the email archive on Geodashing.org. In message #1115, Buxley's NaviCachers was announced, with members Quinn, Buxley (Ed Hall), Gimpy, PC_Medic and YardBoy.

Then, in message #1785, Sue Brown was invited to join the team. That put the membership at 6, already over the limit of 5.

I can't find an email announcing that Dave Hinns joined the team, too, although I now notice that his recent reports have asked that his points be credited to Buxley's NaviCachers.

I'm going to let you guys sort this out among yourselves. Maybe the team is ready to split.

oops!...I should have told scout that "PC_Medic wished to decline the Geodashing for time constraint reasons, thus Sue was taking his place. But I also wasn't aware of Mr. Hinn's activation and am wondering what I missed? So anyways scout, you can (if you would please) remove Medic and add Sue. :)

Hi everyone,

I didn't get a chance to do any geodashing last weekend, as I was busy preparing my house for new carpet.  Carpet's down, and boy, are my feet happy now!  :xmas

So, to make up for a lost weekend, I'm dragging a friend along with me on a geodashing marathon Saturday.  Looking at the map, I think we can get to 5 dash points between Portland, OR and Issaquah, WA.  That's my goal.  We're meeting some other friends in Issaquah to go 4-wheeling in the snow Sunday.

Wish us luck!

Sue

PS  I'm still on the team, right?  Dave Hinns was confusing me, too.

I hear ya Sue! :)  I myself have been a bit relaxed about Geodashing too! But now that we are getting caught up on the site and my wife is getting new furniture I think I can slip away next weekend to grab a couple of dashes. I also want to break in my new "V" to see how well it works on those country roadways. I am sure with the Gimpster and yardboy out and about as well as Buxley tromping through the woods, that points are just around the corner!  :grinnin
