Results: Geodashing Game 123 (GDAX)

"We proceeded south from Norfolk to the North Carolina Outer Banks
through Kitty Hawk (of Wright Brothers fame) to South Nags Head on
NC-12 noting lots of hurricane debris beside the road.  We pulled off
and parked on a reasonably solid sandy shoulder and walked the quarter
mile or so across the sparsely vegetated dunes between the road and
the beach.  After negotiating the 25 foot drop from the dunes we were
on the beach.  Since it was close to low tide, we were actually able
to score without getting our feet wet at 290 feet.  I had come
prepared to get in the water if necessary, so I walked out in the surf
until I was 200 feet from the watery DP.  After a few photos to record
the event, we scrambled back up to the dunes and returned to the car."

"Avast, ye hearty mates! 't be pirate speak day. Th' winds blew me
into Salem, Oregon's capitol an' port t' many seafarin' picaroons
known as politicians. AGOF tis anchored 7 fathoms abeam o' th'
westerly sidewalk o' Winter Street SE. T' th' north an' east looms th'
Salem Hospital, t' th' south Bush's Pasture City Park 'n sports fields
fer Willamette University, an' t' th' west the former State School fer
th' Blind behind a chain link fence an' many "nay trespassing" signs.
Close on th' sidewalk be a sign fer Bus Stop 6. Sail ho! Th' streets
crawl wit' prissy landlubbers headin' off t' the'r keelhauled jobs.
Shiver me timbers, 'tis almost fall!"

Game 123 (GDAX) of Geodashing was won by team "Llama League" by a wide
margin. Honorable mentions go to teams "En Dash!" and "GeoTerriers."

Individual honors go to Jack Frickey. Honorable mentions go to Douq
Millar and deodasher.

The game saw 63 dashpoint hunts in five countries (Australia, US,
Italy, UK and Finland).

A sampling of waypoints visited by Geodashing players this month:

in Italy, in a field planted with either peas or beans, near a water
tap, an old barn, and a red truck

on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne, in the showroom of a
Mercedes Benz dealership

in Arizona, between the back side of Home Depot and a small barrel
cactus wearing a hat underneath a tree

down a gravel road in Minnesota, along which are five large poultry
buildings, the longest ones about 230 meters long

in Australia, in a classroom of the Northern School for Autism

on a fairway of the Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont, Colorado

in the southbound left lane of I-35 south of Des Moines, Iowa,
reported from the parking lot of Two Saints winery

in the westbound lane of Oregon Highway 126 close enough to the
McKenzie River, hidden by trees, that a person in a boat might be near
scoring range

deep in the Virginia woods almost a half mile from any public road

in a red maize (sorghum) field in the completely flat and really dull
central Nebraska corridor

in the UK, in a field off a blocked off road called Dark Entry on the
outskirts of Linlithgow, along a path that starts just before a
signpost that says that it was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots

inaccessible in the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge of the
"Sandhills" of Nebraska

in shallow water off the beach on the North Carolina Outer Banks

and in the water off the beach near Italy's Naxos Beach Resort ("we
started too late and were blocked by locked gates around the resort
property - we couldn't get out!")

Thanks to all the Geodashing players, whose many great reports are
quoted here, not always with proper attribution. Complete, original
reports are available on the Web site.

About Geodashing: Geodashing is a game in which players use GPS
receivers on a playing field that covers the entire planet. The
waypoints, or dashpoints, to be reached are randomly selected. The win
goes to who can get to the most dashpoints; that is, if you can get to
them at all! Each game has a new set of dashpoints making each game
different and unpredictable. For more information and to play, visit .

Cost is a lot less than a kitchen remodel.
