Scout,

Is this something you are going to put out every month or so, or is there a page on the web somewhere for us to check?

I'll update it as needed, so long as there is interest. I expect TPTB will start publishing their own leaderboard if players show enough interest in what I throw up there.

By the way, I've already tried posting an update to the CentralTexasGeocachers mailing list, but Yahoo! seems to be a little slow in processing incoming emails at the moment. I guess I'll post the update here, as well. You'll find it in the Texas forum.

I have updated the Navicache Stats page. It now has a permanent home, with regular updates. Bookmark the site: Navicache Stats. Enjoy! Feedback is always welcome.

Someday soon, someone is going to come out with a World Stat Board, that pulls info off all the caching websites.

The Navicache Stats Page has been updated with new features -- separate pages for countries and states and information about most recent hides and finds for each player.

This update reveals some cleanup needed in the database. Look at the pulldown menu for states. Using a free-form field results in a lot of inconsistent entries.

Keep in mind that this will not give an accurate list of all caches within a given state due to some naming conventions in our database. This should be fixed in the site updates currently in the works.

Please explain.

I noticed an "Illinois" cache vs many "IL" caches. What else is at risk with US states? The European situation is a real mess. What I'd like to see is Navicache take the lead in cleaning up the situation, then offering some standard values in a pulldown menu. Still leave a user-supplied "other" value to capture additional answers that might be necessary, but try to standardize on the regional names that seem to already be popular.

Also, the XML file size could be made smaller for my purposes by omitting the text of the logs. As it is, the XML script options require me to pull *all* the log text if I want to get *any* log information at all. Any chance of offering a way to avoid getting the log text?

:)  But still,  one neat list (even with possiable errors) is an improvement.

This is just a bump as a reminder that a geocaching stats page is available at http://geocaching.gpsgames.org/navicache/stats.

There was an error in the URL in the message above. The period at the end of the sentence found its way into the URL, making the URL invalid. I've corrected the link. So, if you tried the link and got an error, please try again. Sorry for the mistake.

The stats pages are back in operation. They were up and down the last week or so as I converted to a different interface (thanks again, GeoRockers).

Also, you can have your own personalized stats bar based on the stats. It's good for signatures or one-time use in Web forums or your own Web page. See my sig for an example.

Yep. This stats board is about as useful as the keenpeople stats board.

Hmm, I always thought Scout did a pretty good job.
Perhaps you could post the link to 'your' more 'useful' Stats Board so we could compare the two?

Yep. This stats board is about as useful as the keenpeople stats board.

I assume you mean it doesn't include stats from gc.com. If you mean something else, please elaborate.

My stats board includes Navicache statistics, all the Navicache statistics, and only Navicache statistics. If you are a Navicache user, the results should be useful to you. If you are a gc.com user, I'm sorry. My stats board does not try to count gc.com stats. That site's Webmaster doesn't play well with others, so I don't try to include his stats. My Navicache stats should be as accurate as can be. If there are any errors, please let me know.

keenpeople.com does include stats from wherever, but only if individuals supply the data. The result is spotty. You can get pretty good data from people who really care about such things. And not such good data about people who don't care, or don't care enough to keep their stats up to date, even people with a large number of finds.

No post about stats would be complete without mentioning Dan Miller, who maintained a stats board for a long time, but finally gave up.
