Just a thought: Is it legit to have a TB travel by helium balloon? Or put it in a water bottle and throw it in the ocean. It would be interesting to see where it shows up....

I would guess they would end up in a trash can someplace or ever worse as litter on a beach or in woods .  :nono

Definately NOT acceptable in my opinion!

I would certainly hate to think of 1000's of cachers releasing their TB's into the air by balloon or the waterways in a bottle just to land randomly about the country side or wash up upon the few remaining clean beaches. That is if they are not first ingested by unsuspecting marine mammals.

I give it  :nono   :nono

Glad I brought the issue up. I didn't think of the ecological impact it may have. Thanks for the wake-up.  :;):

We did something like that when I was in grade school. This was the 70's so people weren't too worried about the enviroment.....
Anyways, about 200 kids released helium balloons with tags on them. Only 1 was ever found and the person contacted the school....I think it made it to Michigan.

I have released several balloons in my time.

Most, if not all, of them never seem to make it out of the state. I am only about 60 miles from the East border of my state, and the jetstream (I figured) would take it East fairly quick.

I have gotten a few back. Most from just across town or the county.

I have since given up on releasing balloons.

Waste of money in my opinion.
