Isn't there some SIMPLE way to share files that can be directly
imported with Garmin's MapSource program?!

I'm in northern California.

BTW, $129 to buy the maps is obscene.

I don't know.  However, I understand that DeLorme's map updates are much more reasonable.  They are a mapping company, after all.
