Hi folks;
I am not new to Geocaching, but rather new to Navicache. I have been using Groundspeak, but find them... well, I am getting tired of them. They stopped having virtual caches, and other types that were plain fun, such as "alternate logging requirements". Are virtual caches allowed here?
I hope to have many more caches listed on this site soon!
Thanks;
Alex

First .... Welcome  :wave

To answer your question , yes Virtuals are permitted here.
As are traveling, micro, web-cam and most any other type you can think of.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
You may also want to use the search feature here in the forums as most (not all) questions have been answered here at one point.

I'd like to say welcome as well.  I look forward to any ALR or virtual cache you can come up with!

I shouldn't have been surprised by Groundspeak making ALRs optional to logging, but I was. Of course, by making them optional, they have signed them to the deathbed as the number chasers will just log their find and move on. Personally (with only a few exceptions), I used to love the caches that had ALRs, as they generally added to the caching experience.

You may or may not be surprised to find that Groundspeak have also made the physical logging of a cache optional - which really does defeat the purpose of caching. After someone logged my Inner Glow as found, without even having retrieved it (let alone written in the logbook), I suggested they change their found log to a note. I thought I had been polite and cordial, but clearly not as the answer I received was something along the line of "what are you going to do? Delete it?".  Well, I hadn't really been thinking of doing that at all, as I am a very easy-going guy who likes to let every cacher cache in their own way.  And had he not caught me on a bad day, I probably still wouldn't have deleted the log. But I did, and after he complained to Groundspeak the log was reinstated, and I was told that I could not delete the log if the cache had been found. I pointed out that it had been seen, but not retrieved, and that did not constitute being found in my opinion. Groundspeak stated that the cacher had found the cache and been unable to reach it due to circumstances out of their control, and that they would clearly have been able to retrieve it otherwise, therefore the cache had been "found". Yeah, right, whatever.

That is really sad.  Of course, I'm not even sure how The Powers That Be at any listing site can know for sure if a particular person has found a particular cache.  I guess Groundspeak would rather alienate a few cache owners, than the mass of new and potential  casual cachers who are their biggest source of growth.

Confirmation Codes or Log Passwords offered by some sites and limit such incidents, unless legitimate finds share the CC/LP.  Perhaps this is something the new management will consider implementing.

I think it is truly sad that as far as Groundspeak is confirmed, actually retrieving a cache and signing the logbook is itself merely an ALR, and therefore optional. Clearly they have no problem with someone who just wants to collect smilies. To be honest, I generally don't care about such things. If someone wants to cheat in that way, on Groundspeak they are really only cheating themselves, and their cheating does not often (if at all) affect others. It was only because of the reaction I received, and because I received it on a bad day, that I deleted the log as invited. Normally I just wouldn't care, except to wonder at why someone would bother to "find" caches in that way.

As you have already stated in the appropriate forum as well, it would be a very good thing if confirmation codes could be added to NC. Something that Groundspeak would never consider, as it might inhibit future funds from customers (uh, I mean, cachers).
