Does everybody have days like this, or should I think about getting a new GPSr?

I went out yesterday morning on a beautiful sunny day. On the first cache hunt, the reception was cutting in and out. At one point when I thought I was getting close to the waypoint, all of a sudden I was 300 feet away. I gave up on that and went to the next one. This time the GPS wanted me to go 200 feet down the side of a steep hill. I knew from the description and cache logs that couldn't be right. I decided to give it one last try on another cache. This one was on the side of a hill next to a creek, according to the cache logs. My GPS was zeroing out in the creek bottom, so it had to be several hundred feet off.

I have a pretty cheap GPS but don't think it is one with a reputation for poor reception, and it has served me well on other occasions. I can get a pretty good 3D fix inside my house, too.

What do you think?

I have experienced this type of reception on two occasions.

One was while placing one of my own caches and was due to location of the park. It was near a large (largest actually) naval communications center. Those looking for my cache experienced the same issue.

Now yours you say was in 3 different locations so may be more related to my second incident which turned out to be a flaky rechargeable battery. One of the cells was bad and replacing it returned reliable operation.

Some times I think a GPS has a mind of its own . I have that problem when Im in hills and large revines . I have a Megellan 600 and I only have problems when Im in hill areas it says its 700ft to my left and if I get to the top of the hill is says its 500ft to my right ugg. But I'm determined to find it. might take hour or so  but I finally do.. lol

Just out of curiosity, have you tried disabling WAAS in areas like this?

I went out and found one tonight and the GPS was behaving itself a lot better, so I'm going to chalk it up to just one of those things.

I found on my brother's 60Csx that he was always way off and my GPS 76 would be spot on. The difference, I don't have maps or routing on mine. Turns out, his was set to navigate by road. I can't remember how to change it but that may help in searching for caches on foot/off road.
