I placed two caches this morning and they were approved super fast.  Thanks for the great service!

Over at the competition the fearless leader is begging the other users not to stomp on newbies.  Many of those guys are very arrogant and don't want new people.  You guys have really made me feel at home and I want to thank you for that. :^:

Approvals here are fast and I've never had any hassle from the admins. I've created some unusual caches, too, so I appreciate it.

On gc.com, it seems like the censors are always busy. My favorite was the geocacher who was told his virtual geocache in a cemetery was rejected because there are already too many virtual geocaches dealing with dead people

In my opinion, instead of spending so much time reviewing caches, they should be writing code to allow geocachers themselves to rate the caches and filter the caches based on the ratings. That way, the bad caches will get taken care of by the people who play the game, instead of by admins.

Interesting. Can you identify the forum and thread? In my experience, "the fearless leader" does some of the heaviest stomping. And it's not just my opinion. Here is a very experienced geocacher's recent reply to a post by the site owner, "Nice attitude; say, in effect, 'screw you' and lock down the thread."

Thanks for the kudos, we try to keep everyone happy.  :^:
There are four of us who have the ability to approve the caches and we are pretty open minded as to what is acceptable. This combination cuts down on the time that would otherwise be spent censoring evrything that comes through.

We dont have any comprtition  :grinnin , and we definately do not tolerate "stomping on the newbies". :nono
Hell, everybody was a newbie at one point, and after the cache listings, the second purpose of the site is to assist and introduce "newbies" to the sport.

By the way.....welcome to Navicache

I would also like to add my thanks for the quick approvals :)Now, I just have to get used to changing my HTML to work well on NC.com since it looks kinda goofy ??? but I will edit all my cache pages later. I am curious, however, how many people post caches here as well as on the other site? I want as many people as possible to come trade trinkets with me and it seems quite prudent to post 'em on both sites to help further the hobby.

I post my new caches only here.

I think having choice is good for the hobby. It seems to me that if caches are cross-posted, then a lot of gc.com customers will never sample sites like this one. So, I don't cross-post them. If geocachers want to see all the caches, they have to come here as well.

My two pennies worth...

I created a virtual cache, based upon a very accurate point near here where you could test the accuracy of your GPS.

On here, no problem, over at "the other place" it was rejected as the hint told people what they were supposed to be looking for.  (Duh, I thought that was the point of the clue!  :oo: ) so I amended the cache by adding a physical cache at a spot about 1/2 a mile away, which was related to the original point by the fact that the Ordnance Survey had quoted an incorrect National Grid Referrence, and the cache was then approved.

Two days later the first visitor reported the cache gone and kindly emailed me pictures so I could confirm that they were definately in the right place.  I've just been there, and found some litter which consisted of discarded parts of the trinkets put in the cache.  No sign of the tupperware box.

So, that's three caches that I've logged on the other place that have all gone MIA.

Not suggesting that is the fault of the people who run the other system, but I wish more people in the UK would use this site instead...

I have been waiting a week to get two caches approved.  One was approved Saturday night.  Some idiot visited the cache at 4:30am and was nearly arrested.  So gc has put them in archive.

Whatever happens... I am not posting any more caches over there.   Right now my good side is arguing with my bad side.

My bad side wants to crank up my Evinrude in the cesspool of life. :^^  Two can play the game of reporting supposedly unsafe caches.

My good side wants to drop the whole thing and chalk it up to experience.

Thanks for the soap box, you can have it back now.  :D

There does seem to be a competetive element to wanting to be the 1st to a cahe creeping in, doesn't there?  Not necessarily a bad thing in itself, except when people take it to extremes, as ever in life!

I have to admit that Geodashing is becoming my game of choice these days, I even think twice about doing caches close to dashpoints.  Especially in the muddy winter weather!

Let me clarify... he wasn't trying to be first.  He just does all of his caching at night.  His logs are full of statements about tresspassing, hiding from police, and entering closed parks.

A guy like that can ruin the fun for the rest of us.

Very true, but fortunately they tend to be a minority in any hobby/interest.
