Found and logged a virtual Saturday night.  Here it is I was the 2nd finder ever, and the first in 6 years. I noticed the first finders required photo was a dead link. I figured well, PCMedic had the site redesigned a few months before selling it, maybe old pictures uploaded with cache logs got lost in the shuffle.

Nope. Although mine showed up when I uploaded them, and for an undertermined amount of time afterwords, I looked a few hours later, and they too are lost in oblivion, just like the 6 yr. old picture. I get this message:

The File or page located at /pics/memberpics/findpic46626-1.jpg Was not found on www.navicache.com Sorry, the file you were looking for could not be found. It may have moved to a new location. edit: By the way, it appears to be the same as my other thread, about the Google Maps showing caches in the Ocean. Surfing Navicaches that I know have pictures uploaded to them (not just uploaded by myself), about 2/3 of pics I find are dead links, about 1/3 of them work.

I can't recall exact details, but I seem to recall that I need to be careful when editing a log, not to lose any uploaded pics.  I've also had some issues with pics going missing without editing the logs, but PC Medic had helped with that.  Been a while, though.

You might be on to something! My first edit was just to add the pics, and of course I could see them. I did edit a 2nd time (documented at the bottom of the log), and that could be when they disappeared.

I completely deleted the original log, but before I did, I copied my text. I then uploaded 3 pics, and they don't show up, period! However, I used Google Chrome as my browser, I'll bet that's the reason, seeing as Navicache itself pre-dates Google Chrome by several years. I will try again in the future, and update this post.

Not sure where the new owners went, haven't heard a peep from them  in quite some time so I will jump in and help out here.

First, if you edit a log you also MUST resubmit any pics you wish to appear with the log. If you leave the 'Picture fields' in the form (ie; Title 1, Picture1, Title 2 Picture 2, etc) blank, it will delete the images associated with the log from the database. This was intentional in the script. The bug however is that it does not also remove the image title/link at the bottom of the log thereby leaving a broken link.  This was an needed update to the script that was in progress when the site was sold.

As a side note, whiteurkel's "here it is" link takes you to the OLD cache page instead of to Here It Really Is . This would indicate to me that he is using an old bookmark or link to get to cache pages and this can also cause problems. I had set up to have everything redirect automatically to the new scripts, but sometime shortly after the sale I notice some changes they made had 'broken' this redirect for some page types as well as effected page layouts causing old menus to be shown. I had sent them an email regarding this months ago, but never got a response.

Sigh...  Thanks, PC, for staying involved!

Dude. Can you still get the website back? Don't answer that, I just felt an insatiable urge to type it.  :tungue2

Hmm. I would have definitely linked to that cache from finding it in the list of my finds in my profile. I'm sure of it. No clue how I got an "old page". I didn't see your post for a few days, but I once again deleted the log, and tried for the 3rd time, this time with Firefox, and it's good. I actually lost one of the 3 pics I uploaded now a month later, but that's fine.

Thanks, PCMedic, for trying to fix MickEMT's 6 year old log. I see you've done some tinkering there. I assume his photo is not lost forever?

Unfortunately, yes...it is gone.
I am guessing at some point he went to edit the log entry and left the image fields blank. Doing this removes the image from the database and 'is supposed to' also remove the link to the image.
A bug (or undocumented feature as we like to call it) failed to remove the link and that is why the broken link still appears in the updated log once it is saved.

I still check in from time to time and will help (and fix) when time permits. That (time) was the main reason I gave the site up. Had alot going on then and no time to invest in script improvements. Was hoping the new owners would continue improving on the site and that was their intention. Not sure what happened as I have not heard from them in several months. I see traffic has dropped significantly and this may be the reason. Hope something happens soon. Take it back? .... Hmmm.

Hey guys, I checked the Van Horn Mansion and I see the photos just fine, at both Here it is and Here it really is links.  I can also see MickEMT test image of 3dMedical too bad about the original.

Thanks PC Medic for keeping an eye out.  I too am hopeful something happens soon with this website. I hope the new owners get something going soon.

I'm guess traffic is down because of the droves of people flocking to Garmin's opencaching.com site.    I heard they have just broken the 10 cachers barrier.

Ya' know, you and myself only met once for about 2 minutes, but I'll bet we could get together and talk for hours about why, and how much we dislike Garmin's Opencaching.com.  :p

By the way, I have put my money where my mouth is. I got a Magellan handheld last year, and I already bought the Magellan Roadmate auto GPS I'm having Mrs. TWU give me for Christmas.  :tungue2
