So I logged a cache Saturday, and I noticed it's Google Map on the cache page placed it off the coast of Ghana, Africa. looked at some more local Navicaches, and some are in the Ocean (same spot), some are shown accurately. In my profile, and just randomly clicking links to the 170 Navicaches I have found, I'd say a sample of about 25 of them showed about 1/2 the caches shown in the same spot in the ocean. Originally I was going to roll with the theory that older placed caches are the ones in the Ocean, but that doesn't appear to be the case. It seems quite random to me whether or not a cache is going to be shown in the Ocean.

I am going to bet in all of these cases the coordinates for the caches (below the map) all displayed as 0's. There were two causes for this and both were corrected long ago. Unfortunately any caches that had been submitted prior to the fix need to be updated manually and this can be done by the cache owner or an Admin. They simply need to go to 'Edit Cache' and then scroll to the bottom and click the 'Submit' button. This forces an update to the database to the proper map coordinate.

Thanks PC Medic. I actually saw your post a couple days after you posted it, and just read the info, and didn't respond then. I see you most obviously must have looked at my latest find, and fixed that one. I'll refrain from sending you links to listings though, as my preliminary look showed about half the caches I looked at have this problem!

The fix was a long time ago? I'd assumed it was only since you went to Google Maps, which if I'm not mistaken was sometime in 2011?

No, not related to the Google Maps switch. It had to do with the old mapping service we were usings server. It would often not respond, and rather than have our server sit waiting endlessly our script just continued after a set time. Because no map image was ever retrieved and stored in our database, it unfortunately caused a return of 0's for the map coordinates in the database. Then that mapping service was taken off line and we were not aware of this for some time. That left a large number of caches with the issue. Switching to google maps was done to replace the missing maps service and provide a muck better quality map as well.
