How does one search by type of cache in the advanced search function?  For the life of me, I can't seem to figure it out.  I've had some luck searching by keyword in titles and descriptions, but this isn't optimal.  Navicache still offers types of caches, such as virtuals, webcam, locationless, moving, etc., that the other site doesn't any longer.  Navicache should leverage this advantage to appeal to newbies and current cachers.  They could boast of this on their front page, for example, but a pretty simple way is to allow searching by type.  As it is, I can't search the database for just moving caches, multi-part, puzzle, etc.  Thoughts?

It would be a good addtion to the search options, but it does not seem to be an option now.

Technically, Navicache offers the following cache types: Normal, Multi-Part, Virtual, Moving/Traveling, and Event.  Things like webcams and locationless cache simply fall under the Virtual heading.

FYI - While Groundspeak no longer allows Virtuals, Webcams, Moving, or Locationless caches, Navicache is not the only site to offer them.  I've not seen any Moving Caches on the site, TerraCaching also allows for each of these other types and since caches are peer reviewed by your two sponsors, one could well do a Moving Cache.

Don't forget puzzles!  Maybe NC should add these other types?  At the very least, the ability to search by virtual would make it easier to find these types.  Or by puzzle, depending on what the CO categorizes them as.  Are there a lot of examples and activity on these other types of caches on TC?

There are actually several moving caches listed here. Can not remember all of them, but a couple would be...

Traveling thru Purgatory and South Island Limousine

There was one on the first 'new caches' list for a while:

Leipzigs 1. Bewegter Cache

However, that is in German.

TC has a completely separate listing and point system for Locationless.  They count toward your total finds, though.  Their Traditional (location based) caches are divided into Classic, Offset, Virtual/Task, Event/Temporary, and Other.  The most active seem to be Classic and Virtuals.  However, TC doesn't have the ability to search by type, either.

Thank you, PC Medic!  The Traveling thru Purgatory is actually in my neck of the woods!  I had no idea.  And it's still active.  Looks like I'll be making a trip to Minnetonka!

I had a job interview in the area and decided to unwind afterwards by attempting the moving cache:
http://www.navicache.com/cgi-bin/db/displaycache2.pl?CacheID=2904

Pretty cool.  I think it's a very well-thought out moving cache.  It's be fun to do some more!

You are right, this is a cool idea. I might even 'steal' that idea and do something like that over here. I could even list the first stage at *the other site* and add info about the whole cache in the first stage, leading everyone to navicache.com.  :grinnin

Yeah, I may have to borrow the idea as well.  I'm not sure about your bait and switch plan, though.  It may ruffle some feathers.
