I noticed that I'm not able to register for the Chat Rooms area of the site because registration is closed.

Is this functionality closed permanently?

I wondered the very same thing a while back, but decided not to write a post for that. How good would a chat be at the moment with only a handful of people posting at all ... ?

Well, true.  I was thinking that maybe the few of us who are active in the forums could schedule times to meet and actually talk live.

Thanks.  I just logged in to test it out.

How about a chat event?  Hmmmm....

How long does it usually take to receive that confirmation email? I registered as 'kfl' and my usual email address (double-checked), but after 15min or so I still didn't receive anything.

I got mine pretty quickly.  Check Junk Mail folder?

PC - How can we change our default password?

[Never mind.  I found how to change my password.  FYI, look for "Members Area" link on main Chat window.]

I checked that, nothing there as well. I tried registering again (with kfl_test as username, because kfl is now taken), but I didn't get anything again. I tried another email address (using kfl_test2 this time) and got an email within seconds. I didn't register that one.

Could an admin please remove 'kfl' 'kfl_test' and 'kfl_test2'? I could then register again as 'kfl' using another email address. Or maybe even figure out what the problem with this email address is. I did receive emails from navicache to that account in the past, and I cannot find anything in any of my folders, including the spam folder.

Have you tried using the "Lost Password" option on the main Chat page.  If that doesn't work, perhaps you entered your e-mail address incorrectly, though I think it has you enter it twice to avoid typo errors.

If that doesn't work, I'd fall back on the "Contact Us" e-mail link.

Dave

That is a very good idea, I didn't try that yet. It does tell me it has sent an email with my password, but also here nothing happens in my inbox (or my spambox or any other box). I will just wait for the next admin to stumble across this thread and hope they can fix it. Or maybe unverified accounts are deleted anyway after some time, automatically.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck.  I did look again and see that it only has you fill in your e-mail once, so if you typo it, you typo it.  However, since you tried a second time, I'd think it unlikely you flubbed your address twice.

Did I ever tell you I really like your avatar?  Is KFL your initals or is there some other meaning?

Thanks. :) KFL are the initials of our geocacher team (2), even if I nowadays usually go alone. What is your avatar? It looks like a pathtag, but it is difficult to read something.

Yes, it is my first personal Pathtag and is based on the Revolutionary Era Gadsden Flag.  I've used that general design as an avatar for most of my caching and also have a wooden nickel based on it.  I'm beginning to work on my second Pathtag.  I'll be based on the Liberty Tree (Appeal to Heaven) flag, also from the American Revolution.

You can see my Pathtag and wooden nickel collections on Flickr:

Ever get your Chat account working?

Yes, but I will only tell an admin how.  :grinnin

However, in the meantime: don't use an email address or password you care about for the chat. If you do currently, better change it fast.

Thanks for the heads up.  I changed my password.  We'll have to see about planning a time we can meet up to chat.

I'd love to try to get a "Chat Room Event" listed.  Wonder what PC Medic would think about that.  And if he or anyone else would join us.

Do you do Pathtags?

Yes, that would be nice. Maybe we can attract more than just the two of us - maybe even PC Medic. That would be great.

I collect them when I find them, but I neither have many nor my own.

I'd be game for a "Chat Room Event."  I'm sure if I posted a Navicache event in my area no one would show up.  A chat event may be a feasible way to meet other navicachers.

Any better times for folks?  I could do Mon or Wed at 8 or 9 pm ET.  Maybe a weekend time, but it would depend on the weekend.

Mon or Wed evening would be ok, but most likely not before 8pm central time, that would be 9pm eastern time.

Maybe I'll put together a chatroom event page and see what PC Medic thinks about it.  I'll want to schedule it at least a month out to try to get as much word out about it as possible.

If he doesn't approve that, we should still plan to  get together.

Sounds great.  It would be nice to attend an "event," but if it doesn't get approved, I'd still like to meet fellow navicachers.

Now, I can't get logged into the Chat Room.  I've even used the lost password link and entered my info exactly as it was in the e-mail I received.

Anyone else having problems.

I can login. Maybe the problem is that you probably have a different password for the chat and the usual navicache account and the browser only remembers one (this is a problem in my case - when I log into the chat using the other password it overwrites the remembered usual navicache password).

No.  I just tried from another machine that I've never accessed NC from and have the same problem.  Guess I may need to contact PC Medic.

Chat Events are (or were when they were popular) posted/scheduled in the geocachers meeting geocachers forum.

No luck.  I received my most recent password reminder e-mail at 10:07 AM EDT today and looked at it again just before trying from both Firefox and Internet Explorer on my home PC after trying from IE on two systems at work today.

I'll send you a note from the Contact Us link.
