When I log in on my laptop to Geocaching With Navicache Forums, I check the button to stay logged-in. :)
But if I shutdown my laptop, sometime latter return and fire it up, when I come to the Geocaching With Navicache Forums I have to log-in again. ???
It's no big deal, I am just wondering if it is my computer or the way the Forum works.
:)
Regards,
John

No updates needed here.

JJW - see  This Post and then set as you would like it.

Quinn - same post as noted for JJW... you were exceeding the limit so I have adjusted it to the max suggested.

Other than that, you may all want to check your browser and firewalls cookie settings. The site works off cookies and if you have your browser/firewall set to delete cookies when you close the prowser or close windows, this will result in your needing to login on your next visit.

PC Medic,
Thank you!
At first I thought it was my computer.
I went to link, then my account and I was at 0 log-out.
Easy change, tested a few turn-ons/turn offs of the laptop and I'm still here.
:D

Regards,
John

edit: mysterious W in typing eliminated. :)

Well, I just check my settings and am already set to 604800 (1 week).  I check the forums at least once per day and always need to log in so don't seem to be working as designed.

I use Firefox 3.5.5 at home and Internet Explorer 8 at work.

I'm accustomed to it, though, and just see it as one of those things.

It is working as designed so again.... check your browsers (and, or  firewalls) cookie settings.

In Firefox : Tools / Options / Privacy / Accept Cookies From Sites / Accept third-party cookies / Keep Until = 'They Expire'

I will check this evening, but all my other sites seem to remember my info when I want them to, at least at home with FF.  My IE at work is managed by the enterprise network folks, so I'm not really suprised there.

I've checked and I am configured as you indicated.

When I bring up the forums and click "Log In", my and password get filled in, but I do need to need to "Log Me In".  I also select Yes for "Remember my log in details".

Have you deleted the cookie from your browser and then tried.

It has to be on your end. In fact I log in to your account and can restart my PC and am still logged in when returning to the site.

I'll play with it some more, but it's really not a big deal.  At least at home, my name and password are remembered.

I had a look at the cookies the forum sets. First I deleted all cookies from navicache.org, logged into the forum and then had a look at the cookies. Here is what I found interesting:

 name                           lifetime
navicacheiBSessionID     1 day
navicacheiBMemberID     2 hours
navicacheiBPassWord     2 hours

The other cookies had a lifetime of one year.

The default configuration of my browser is to keep the cookies 'until they expire', which means I will probably be logged out after two hours of inactivity, but for sure after one day. Whichever is really is, I would expect some much longer time.
