I downloaded this gpx but when I put it into any program it says that the coordinates are 0 , can someone else try this cache gpx and let me know if it is just me?

Thanx

Sorry about the problem. :(

It appears the automated update couldn't access the data base during the update time period, but the back up map routine, which checks for missing maps, was able to get the maps.

We fixed the coordinates. :)

Thanks for reporting the coordinate problem. :)

I have just recreated the issue you describe and we will look into the problem. I will post here and also email you as soon as it is corrected.

Hello Everyone,

This is very strange... I'm getting the coordinates... there may be another problem...

Here's the output from the GPX download for this cache:

Code Sample

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" standalone="yes"?>
<gpx
  version="1.0"
  creator="NaviCache Cache Download 1.0.0 - http://www.navicache.com"
  xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
  xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0"
  xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd ">
     <name>geotest3's GPX download</name>
     <author>NaviCache.com</author>
     <email> delted to prevent spam bot harvesting </email>
     <url>http://www.navicache.com</url>
     <urlname>NaviCache</urlname>
     <time>2006-05-21T00:05:44Z</time>
     <wpt lat="37.36295" lon="-81.0457666666667">
        <name>N02099</name>
        <desc>A Blue Star Cache by geogrfx420</desc>
        <url>http://www.navicache.com/cgi-bin/db/displaycache2.pl?CacheID=8345</url>
        <urlname>Cache Details</urlname>
        <sym>Default</sym>
        <type>Geocache</type>
     </wpt>
</gpx>

Here's the file I received when I downloaded the gpx file:

http://www.navicache.com/NaviCache_2006_05_20__20_05_44.zip

Would you please download this file and tell me what you see?

Thanks,

Appears it may be intermittent.

Here are my results from earlier when I duplicated Hillbilly Tilley's problem...

Code Sample

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" standalone="yes"?>
<gpx
  version="1.0"
  creator="NaviCache Cache Download 1.0.0 - http://www.navicache.com"

     <urlname>NaviCache</urlname>

     <wpt lat="0" lon="0">

        <urlname>Cache Details</urlname>
        <sym>Default</sym>
        <type>Geocache</type>
     </wpt>

And here are the results now....

Code Sample

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" standalone="yes"?>
<gpx
  version="1.0"
  creator="NaviCache Cache Download 1.0.0 - http://www.navicache.com"

        <urlname>Cache Details</urlname>
        <sym>Default</sym>
        <type>Geocache</type>
     </wpt>

So it is working now.

Hello Everyone,

The first issue was caused by the automated update program not being able to read from/write to the database... a lat/lon of 0,0 was in the database...

Quote (PC Medic @ May 20 2006,6:36 pm)

This is another issue... the symptoms appear the same for the cache in question because a lat/lon of 0,0 is occasionally returned, but I know a non-zero lat/lon is in the database...

We'll have to perform some more troubleshooting to figure out what is occuring.

Here's a quick update...

The intermittent nature of this problem has made it difficult to track down, but we now have a clue about the cause, and unfortunately, it appears to be related to the lack of system resources, hence it's intermittent nature. :(

We are trying to validate this at the present time.

I tried downloading the caches in my area via a gpx and have come across a weird error.  All the other listings(out of 25) loaded fines exept these:

N02907
N028B2
N026DC
N026DA
N028CC**

So I downloaded the one marked by itself (deleted from GSAK) and the same result.  I opened the GPX and LOC file and the coords are missing, but the .txt file does have them, and the cache listing online shows them.  Anyone have any clues?

Please try them now and let me know if they are working.

BTW, there is a thread in the forums discussing this (missing coordinates in GPX file).

Just seen it the other message, can you join the two?

The problem is still there.  The GPX and LOC are both missing the certain coordinates.  All the caches are also represented by .txt files too, and they are even more complete than the GPX and LOC files to include the description and coordinates even for the ones I am having issues with (what program uses those?).

On a related issue, it looks like there are other missing fields as well; type, container and descriptions are all missing.  Are there any plans to include all those too?

Now I did not check after reading your original post before applying an old fix, so I can not be sure the problem was there. I can say that checking just bow, I am getting the coordinates in my GPX and LOC files both.

What method / steps are you using to download?

To replicate this error, use Clarksville, TN 37042 with 60 miles as the radius.  When you check them all and download the zip file, use a text editor (notepad for me) to open the .loc or .gpx and do a text search for "dunbar" and you will see that it has "0" as both the lat and long.

The text file "N0010444.txt" has the info for Dunbar and it is complete, with the other info as well.

The coords are there now, what was the issue?

Now, how about getting the rest of the fields?  Can we get the icon, container size, State and description added? :)
