I just registered as a member. Went to the search page and entered my zip and nothing came up, entered zip and distance, still nothing. Entered zip, distance, city, state, and nothing yet. Entered a waypoint near me with the distance, but nothing again. Entered all the same for a bigger city, with no luck. I live in St. George Utah 84770, I tried Salt Lake City Utah 84121

Any ideas???

With a radius of 50 miles, doing a search of the St. George ZIP you provided I find seven caches. Not many in your area yet I will admit, but I was trying only to confirm the search function was working. For the Salt Lake Zip I find 62 caches listed.

What distance were you using as the criteria?

Just tried again but there is nothing coming up yet.
One of the members at my bulletin board recommended your web site and before I listed it I wanted to check it out first. I think this would be great to give cachers another option. I just wish it was more user friendly for me. Maybe it will be easier for others.
If you would like to post some thing about your site and some of its features you are welcome to do that. It is just getting started so as of now there's not many lookers.

SnappyTurtles, you'd better tell us exactly what you are doing. I just entered 84770 in the "search by distance" form and it returned five caches. I entered 84770 in the "Geocache Quick Search" on the home page and 16 pages of caches were returned.

Here is a detailed list of what I'm doing. I login and it takes me to my SnappyTurtles's home page. On that page there is a line of blue button bars at the top. The third one over says search for caches. When I click on that it takes me to the cache search page. I placed 100 miles in the box, typed in St. George, brought up Utah, put in 84770. and I also did variations with only putting zip and city, etc. When I clicked on the "start distance search" button the same result came up every time! It took me to a page that had a line of blue buttons on the top of the page. Under that about an inch of blank white space. Under that a blue line, under that two banner advert., under that an adsense advert, and so on.
Pressed the back button to the cache search page and scrolled down and filled out various ways to search for a cache and when I clicked the "detailed search" button the same following message came up:
Detailed Search Results
No caches met your detailed search parameters.
Please press your browser's back button and double check your detailed search entries.
If you believe that this message is in error, please Contact Us.
Thank you for your assistance.
This is very frustrating and if you have any ideas or if I'm not searching in the right area I would like to know.

To SnappyTurtle:
I can't reproduce your results, but I did discover some flaky behavior.

But the most important thing is to try to get you some results. Go to the Navicache home page (not the search page, the home page). In the upper left, there's a box labeled "Geocache Quick Search" and "By ZIP Code". Type in 84770 and click "Go". See if that doesn't give you a few pages of caches.

Now, back to the flaky behavior I saw on the search page. When I type in Utah or 84770 or both, I get good results. But when I type in "St. George" or even "abcdabcd" in the "City/State - US only" section, I get only one cache returned and that one is in Germany. Very strange indeed.

To Navicache:
It looks like there are four different ways to specify the starting location for a distance search. Why is the field for specifying the radius put only in the cell with the lat/lon method? Why isn't it in all four cells or maybe in a cell by itself?

If the "City" is required in the "City/State - US only" search, why isn't an error returned if the city is left blank? Or if the city is misspelled? Why does it return a German cache?

Why is "United States" a choice in the pulldown menu in the last cell, the one that specifies "City/Country - Outside of US"?

If I fill in information in more than one cell (say a state name AND a ZIP code) which one is used for the search?

Sorry about the problems, and thanks for the detailed information.

It appears that our database of cities has St. George entered as St George (no period). :(

I tried to replicate your test, but was unable to get the same results (No caches met your distance search parameters).

All valid points that were missed during the original testing cycle. :(

It shouldn't. :(

If I recall correctly, the US wasn't originally in the list, but was inserted into the list after numerous e-mails asking why it wasn't listed many years ago (and yes, the US only section was there at the time).

City and State have precedence over zipcode.

FWIW, we are experiencing intermittent resource issues (similar to the XMLSearchResults.pl problem you experienced last year), and this is adding a level of complexity to the debugging cycle.

I took Scouts advise and went to Navi's home page and typed in my zip and clicked GO. Unfortunately it took me to the same blank page as before.
Could it be some thing in my computer that isn't accepting or validating the information??

In your first post you mentioned that when you did the search 'nothing came up' and here you are saying 'the same blank page'. Just for clarification are you literally receiving a blank page or are you receiving a results page stating that no caches met your search criteria?

The quick search on the main page does not require any login or validation process so this should not be the issue.

It is possible perhaps that you have a page from an earlier failed attempt stuck some how in your browsers cache and each call for that page is now returning the cached page. Could you try clearing your browsers history and temporary cache files and then try again.

Same results are coming up as last time. I've turned my computer off and re-logged in to nav's page and tried it again on the home page, but ended up with the same results. I don't know how to reset my browser so I haven't tried that.

Not sure which browser you are using but here are the steps for the two most common ones....

Internat Explorer
Tools -> Internet Options
and then click each of the following
Delete Cookies, Delete Files, Clear History

Firefox
Tool -> Options -> Privacy
Then go to each of the following tabs (History, Cookies, cache) and click on the clear button for each.
