|Just wondering, in light of the previous discussion (very old too) about why you would want to duplicate cache listings here? The www.geocaching.com.au site duplicates them automatically, but it is for read only, and if you want to log them, you just go to the 'other' site.|
By all means have a a forum/discussion board though! :-)
There are many reasons this site was started (before the geocaching.com.au site by the way) all of which have been covered many times in other threads.
As you stated the Australian site does no more than 'automatically' GC's database and as 'read only'. This is because it is no more than a local affiliate of GC. We are not. We are a separate non-commercial (free) site with an open-caching format. This means that folks do not have to worry about one site having total control over a central database. We accept all cache types, some of the other sites do not. We do not charge a fee for any member to access certain caches.
Beyond those points please refer to the many threads already covering this issue so that we may keep this thread on topic.
