Wanted to know which caches were no longer available to find.  I live very close of many caches but have not read any stories about people looking or finding them.  Specificaly I am refering to Tryon, Ellison, bay area.  We just tried looking for hidden on july 2003 but couldn't find it.  It might have been there but we could not locate it.  Any way of telling when caches are no available?

If a cache is no longer available than the cache owner should have retired the listing.

If you have looked for a cache and were unable to find it, you may (while logged in) contact the owner by clicking on the email icon next to their name on the cache listing page.

Sorry, a couple weeks late replying, but the conversation is usually very slow around here.  :)  I'd say it's a good bet Rochester has the highest concentration of caches only listed on Navicache only in the whole world. I could be wrong though. :tungue2 Yes, several haven't been found in years. The best thing to do is just go look for them. Personally, I found one of Quinn's in Durand Eastman park that hadn't been touched by human hands in almost a year and a half (it's been found a few times since). I got a real rush out of finding it, try it, I think you'll like it.

And of course you could always try contacting the owners first to see if they've performed maintenance, and are certain it's there.

Also, I have a Navicache listed only hide in Clarence, N.Y., and on the last maintenance visit, it had just about as many finders who never logged on the website as did. So it doesn't mean these caches aren't being found.

I just took the time to look at some listings. I mean how freaking cool would it be to be the first person to unearth Carons Cache in almost 4 years?

Don't make me jump into the car and do it.  :2cool

Hmm - I might have to drive out and check it out.

I'm surprised how often caches sit on navicache without being found.  I got a FTF on this cache after it had been out almost a year (and nobody has been there since!)

Any update on any long unfound Rochester Navicaches, C-Head? I'm thinking I might have a chance to check some out myself this fall/early winter.

Hello? Is this thing on? I'm finally coming to Crapchester this month (first time since '05), and I've looked at almost two dozen Navicache only hides. I don't feel like linking to any of them, but there's still not much action. "Ghost's Domain" (the oldest cache in Monroe County) was found a couple of months ago, as was the virtual "Portly Gentleman". Everything else pretty much hasn't been logged online in 1.5 years, culminating with "Caron's Cache", which has not been logged online for 4 1/2 years!! I'm probably, at the very least looking for "Home Sweet Home" by This user which hasn't been logged in about a year and a half.

Editing the post, since I'm going on a road trip to Rochester, I will (for my own benefit as much as anyone else's) compile a list of Rochester Navicache only hides, and post to this thread. I believe there may be as many as 30 of them.

Looks like Jakk Team is the only one who has made a serious effort to find some of these in the past year and a half, and they on several occasions report non-online logging finders before them. Stay tuned, I think this is interesting stuff. It could just be me though. :p

Yeah, yeah, I talk a big game. I've been to Rochester a couple of times since I posted last (just last weekend, as a matter of fact), but I've not looked for a single "listed only on Navicache" cache. Don't blame me, it's the people I'm with.  :p
But I have logged several cross listed Navicaches there. I'll still work on compiling that list of Rochester Navicache only hides, really I will.  Even though I think Chilehead should do it.

Oh, Home Sweet Home, mentioned above, was actually found in 2008. Caron's cache (a two mile round trip hike) still has no logged attempts since 2003.
