It would be helpful if there were some guidance to help people decide whether to rate the Difficulty or Terrain of their caches easy, moderate, or hard. Otherwise, hiders might mislead seekers if they each have a different rating system in mind.

An online rating system ( < http://www.clayjar.com/gcrs/ > ) has been announced by Clayjar. It is based on a standalone program ( < http://www.cordianet.com/snd/GCRS.zip >
) posted by brokenwing. Maybe navicache.com's webmaster could solicit approval to incorporate this feature into navicache's site. It would need minor modification, as it is based on a five point system, not a three point system like navicache.com uses.

Standards are always good. I used clayjar to rate my caches and they were what I expected. Letting finders rate the cache will confirm the rating or at least point out any errors in the rating systems question database.

Only problem with letting the "Finder" rate the difficulty level is it brings you right back to the issue of "individual standasrds".  What one person may find as moderate terrain another may find difficult. This is mainly due to the fact that there is such a diverse group of individuals participating in Geocaching.

For instance, we usually go as a family group. my wife, my daughters (14 and 16), my son (7) and myself (I have had previous heart problems).  You could probably ask any one of us after a cache hunt to rate the experience and get as many different answers.

True, but which of the following would be more useful?

Cache hider rates this cache as "easy"

or

Cache hider rates this cache as "easy"
25% of cache finders rate this cache as "easy"
65% rate it as "moderate" and
10% rate it as "hard."

It would tell me that the cache hider was in the minority and I should take his rating under advisement.

That type senario would be correct, but the discussion thread was referring more to a situation where the "hider" had used the Cache Rating system used at clayjar.com .
