Topic: Users Page?

Posted by Quinn on Jan. 24 2002,6:53 amWe are now getting ready to dig deep into a users page for our members. I am posting here to se what it is that people would like to be able to do within this new function as well as have added. I know that an editing feature is one of the key items as well as maybe a detailed tracking phase that would keep track of finds. We have a few ideas of our own we will add along with what you guys come up with, but don't wish to put them on the table right now, we will let those be a suprise for you all. So lets hear what it is that you all want and we can go from there. Would you like these pages made public? Private? passworded? name it!
Posted by Morseman on Jan. 24 2002,9:59 amBeing fairly new to this, I guess I've not had much chance to consider what 'cool tools' would be useful and I guess most of the following will be fairly 'standard', but here goes...
Listing caches by area (suggestions might be US states, UK Counties - Like the areas that come up when you swap to the 'England' map)
Listing cahes by difficulty rating.
A quick way to download a selection of cache lat/long in, say, WPT or LOC format, rather than downloading them one at a time.
Some way of plotting the movements of hitch hikers, or Travel Bugs, on a map (the one on geocaching doesn't seem to work for me)
Also, some way of listing where a bug has been (I guess that will be a duplicate of the one on geocaching.com, but again, I've not been able to get it to work for me yet.
How about a 'walk order' showing, for each geocacher, the route taken around the various caches?
I'll not be unhappy if these are not feasable, I tend to be a users of systems rather than being able to dream up new options.
Posted by mikechim on Jan. 24 2002,8:08 pmI think some sort of map that plots all the caches each user has found (in the US, World, whatever) would be cool. Doesn't need to be clickable or anything just a map with a few red dots and maybe cache names.
As usual I'll cast my vote for a hitchiker page if nothing else I can at least put up a little tribute to Grandalf the hitchiking wizad who never made it home from WA.

I'm still getting the hang of the Travel Bug/Hitch Hiker thing, but a way of listing them by name might be useful.
Or, a list of the numbers and the names. This would let me pick on a TB and see where it's been etc. At present I either need to collect one, or search through the caches to find one with a TB in it first.
I know there's a gallery, but it's a bit long winded to download.
With a list of names, I could also avoid naming mine with a similar name to one already out there.
