Since this is my first winter caching I'm wondering if it's normal for everyone to hibernate all winter?

Is it just this cold snap?

I have found a few caches that have been winter accessible (not mine apparently  ??? , but others)....

I say we should get back out there!

I've been out and a bout on a couple of Geocache hunts, but have to admit that I've tended to concentrate on Geodashing as you don't normally have to spens so much time out of the car.  :-)

One problem I find is that caches that are well hidden can get frozen in.  Plus, since many cache sites in the UK are in woodlands, the mud gets quite deep at times!

I remember the spring and summer months where our caches were found almost everday.  :D  Our inbox used to be on fire with all the logged finds!  Even our caches that we hid on vacation had hits like crazy.  Lately,  nobody seems to be caching at all.  (Except  Cenobite! I can't believe he found Spiderman's Hideout with the weather in the single digits :0 )

The weather does play a big role.  I never would have imagined Upinyachit getting burnt out on geocaching.  The kids or my wife don't even talk about it anymore.   Don't get me wrong, I will always be a cacher, but in the winter is different.  I would bet once spring comes, everybody will be heading out.

I still receive the occasional hits on my caches during the winter months (and I am in Virginia Beach), but I think folks tend to move more towards indoor activities during the colder weather. I know I do.

My family and I are sick and tired of living in winter wonderland where there are school closings all the time, and the furnace is always going.  If we didn't have family roots out here, and we had just enough money to pack up and move, you betcha we would move to a warm beach.  I would just love to frame outside where I didn't have to put on 10 sweaters and 4 pairs of pants.  For now though, we will hang in there because NewYork is wonderful in the spring and summer months and somehow it will all be worth it. :p

I bagged six caches on Sunday.  A personal record.  Only problem is there are no caches on Navicache within 300 miles of my home except the ones I placed.   :wave
