Topic: Help!!! UNIT CONTAINS NO MAP

Posted by ddnneeiiff26 on Mar. 07 2004,12:45 pmI have a sportrak map and when i try to upload the base map using MAGUP ith proceedes to upload ( it says PROGRAMMING) but once it gets close to 100 percent it starts over. This happens over and over. Any one else ever have this problem?

Posted by deckyon on Mar. 07 2004,12:50 pmSounds like a trip back to Magellan. Give them a call and see what they say. These type of issues usually warrent a trip to the service center, and other than paying for shipping, it should not cost anything.
I have not seen/heard of this error, wish I could offer more.

This sounds kind of familiar... it sort of rings a bell (about a year and a half ago).
You may want to try clearing the original basemap (by using the secret menu) before uploading your new basemap.
Instructions are in the Meridian faq (original version by Harkev, and updated version by Skrmblr).
Most of the information in the faq is valid for SporTrak and Map330.

After searching for hours we called Magellan Tech support at 1-800-707-9971 and they email the basemap to us and I fixed the Unit in less then 1 hour. Below is a email that tech support sent me because it is possible to mess up the GPS without corrupting the Base Map according to Magellan. The Program code is basically a firmware upgrade available from Magellan and cleans out the GPS, leaving it like it was new out of the box (provided the basemap is not corrupt)

In order to fix the problem that you are experiencing, you would need to follow the following instructions for Expert Upload:
Download the latest software upgrade for the SporTrak Map from our website
<http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/software.asp> Select SporTrak Map and finally software upgrade and download. You will need to PRESS AND HOLD, PLUS MINUS and WALKING MAN to turn your unit off.
Before you upload you will need to put your unit in "Software Upload Mode" by pressing and holding GLOBE MENU and POWER.
Once the file is downloaded into your computer, unzip it and open up the MAGUP file and select "NO" on the automatic upload window.
Select EXPERT from the toolbar, on the EXPERT SET UP window, on unit type select SporTrak Map, then select your COMPORT that you're using and expert upload ON and press OK.
Select UPLOAD from the tool bar, select "Program code only" and then on
upload file window, select UPLOAD FILE. The map upload process should

If this does not fix the problem then there is a second part they can send you (the Basemap and the Instructions). We spent more time on hold then what it actually took to fix the problem and I now have the Sportrak Map Base map compliments of Magellan (Free of Charge)
Overall , Magellan Tech support was fantastic !!!
