Topic: MAP 330 slipping off Magellan's charts?

Posted by sledgehampster on Jan. 01 2003,3:21 pmI start by saying thanks to Magellan for the updates they provide to us (free of charge!!!). BUT I noticed on this page of the Magellan website that the MAP 330 is not pictured. The NEW Meridian and SporTrak lines got the updates to support MapSend Worldwide but we have yet to. Are the future step-children of Magellan? < http://www.magellangps.com/en/news/mediaResources/media_con.asp >

Honestly, I'm suprised 330 is still considered a current product.
When Meridian started shipping in fall of '01 and all the great sales and rebates on the 330 were to be found during the Christmas season of that year, I figured 330 was toast then. Now with SportTrak shipping in quantity, it really seems they're taking a page from the Garmin marketing playbook by offering a zillion confusingly named units with overlapping features and prices.
I love my 330 and am anxiously awaiting Version 4.x for it - I have it on a SporTrak on loan from a friend and it cures a lot of the haggles I have with the 330's code. I can't say I expect software updates forever, but we *know* how similar the units are to Meridian and ST, so I'm hoping that firmware updates for the unit continue well after they do fall off front page and the catalog.

In a different forum, I saw the 4.x firmware for the M330 was on the WW basemap CD. If someone has it, could they get it uploaded and posted on < http://www.navicache.com/map330_basemaps/ >
It it always nice to expedite what Magellan will put on their web site eventually.

As tempting as that is, anyone doing that should be sure that the click-wrap license they surely had to accept before accessing the software allows such redistribution.
