Does anyone have an answer to my problem about using an adapter cabel to go from serial to usb port on my Garmin V?

I just used my usb to serial adaptor on my GPS V without a hitch. I bet you need newer drivers for the adaptor.
Also what Windows are you running? HAve you updated
at Microsofts update site lately your Windows? Try the newer drivers first for the adaptor, if you have not done so yet.

Do you need one or have trouble with the one you have?

Best Buy sells Dynex USB PDA/Serial Adapter Cable, Model DX-UBDB9.  It plugs into a USB port and provides you with a serial port.  I got one for my Garmin eTrex Legend and have sucessfully transferred data from my GPSr to laptop and back using EasyGPS and GSAK.

If you have an adapter and your GPSr is not recognized . . .
1. You may have to check to see your GPSr is in the Garmin or the NMEA Serial Data Format mode and determin which mode the software you're using needs.

2. You may have a port conflict.  Go into 'My Computer', 'Properties' and check properties for you adapter when it's plugged in.  It will let you know if you're getting a conflict.

That being said, I still can't get my older Streets 98 Program to recognize my GPSr.  That may well be because it's an older program.  A co-worker has a newer Streets Program he's going to bring to work.  We'll see what happens there.

I know this is an old topic but wish that Garmin would have made a USB cable for the V so it could be blugged directly into a newer laptop.
