Topic: GC.com and Letterboxing down?
started by: jackbear
Posted by jackbear on Nov. 29 2004,7:56 amWell, I'm trying to ascertain whether or not I have a browser/virus/ problem, or whether anyone else is getting this. When I try to go to gc.com or letterboxing.org I'm getting some med rx site instead. Links to geocaches are getting "forbidden" messages. I'm getting Buxley's and Navicache alright. Anyone have suggestions. Odd...guess its just a monday.
Posted by PC Medic on Nov. 29 2004,8:07 amWell not sure if it was a temporary thing or if your browser was hijacked by malware, but I just tried both and seem to work OK from here.
Posted by jackbear on Nov. 29 2004,9:20 amThanks PC Medic. Somehow I got back into GC.com...but still having problems with Letterboxing.org. Keep getting this infernal MedRX thing...does it when I try yahoogroups too. So its something on my computer for sure, it does it both on IE and Safari (yeah I have a Mac). Why only some sites though? Any suggestions?
Posted by Scout on Nov. 29 2004,10:48 amClose your browser, reboot, then run a virus check and an adware check on your full system.
Posted by PC Medic on Nov. 29 2004,4:46 pmWhile it is odd that it only effects certain URL's I would agree with Scout. I would suggest downloading and running both < Ad-Aware > and < SpyBot >.
Hope this has been of some help.

read this page.

Will prevent your system from even accessing bad sites.

This method also works very well, but requires more interaction on your part with constatnt updating as new methods are employed by the 'BAD' sites.
I prefer the lazy mans method

I hate those. My stepson surfed for some porn on his mother's computer and got the about:blank hijack. THE hardest to fix so far. Needless to say, neither of us where happy with him.
