Topic: Search Isn't Working

Posted by Quest Master on May 11 2007,11:20 amHere's the deal:
I type in my zip code (15601) and I get a list of caches. So far, so good. When I click on "next", there is a longish pause and then I get the same list of caches. I've been trying this for a couple of days to no avail.
This is pretty basic stuff that has to work for me or anyone else to use this site. Am I doing something wrong?
Posted by PC Medic on May 11 2007,2:58 pmI am not seeing this in Firefox 188.8.131.52 or or IE7 (7.0.5730.11).
Could you please tell me what browser you are using?
Posted by schwim on May 11 2007,3:17 pmHi there QuestMaster,
Are you seeing these two values in the URL after the second page loads?
It's working dandy for me both on FF and IE on linux.

I'm using IE7 on Windows XP -- pretty standard stuff.
It appears to be some kind of a timeout thing. It worked again a couple of days ago after I posted here but it didn't work last night and it's not working now.
I guess it has to be in the right mood before it will let me get to the second page.
Posted by schwim on May 14 2007,10:58 amI have the same problem with some of the features on the site QM. I just wait 5 minutes and try again.
Posted by Quest Master on May 30 2007,7:45 pmI'm still having trouble with this but it appears to be a problem on my end. Everything works find on a different machine running IE6 on the same internet connection.
I'm running IE 7.0.5730.11IC on Windows XP. IE7 has given me nothing but grief since I got it.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
There one odd thing that I noticed that might shed some light on this problem. When I enter my zip into the box on the homepage, it displays the first page fine saying that it's page 1 of 68. When I click "next", there is a 5-10 second delay before it displays the first page again saying that it's page 1 of 4. I can't get past page 1 and it's very frustrating!

In all seriousness, I do have a suggestion: < Firefox >.
Your computer will thank you.
Posted by Quest Master on May 31 2007,5:49 pmHey! Guess what? It's working today! And I didn't even have to use Firefox. I am going to get it the next time I have trouble, though. Thanks for the link!
Posted by schwim on May 31 2007,7:50 pmCool deal. Still consider Firefox. You don't have to get rid of one to use another, and if you decide you don't like it you can always start IE back up. The modules and added tab functions make some people's lives easier.
Posted by Team_Metamorphosis on Oct. 10 2007,3:49 pmFor the past few days I've had this same problem and I have tried with both IE7 and Firefox. I have tried at different times of the day as well.
Posted by Team_Metamorphosis on Oct. 12 2007,10:11 amIt really isn't working. I'ver cleaned caches, history, cookies, etc on both browsers, rebooted, etc. trying to do whatever I can to eliminate anything on my end but nothing seems to work.

Be sure to include the search criteria you are using so I can attempt from my end.
Posted by Quest Master on Oct. 14 2007,8:16 amI think I can shed some light on this problem and what had me confused when I started this topic.
This is how the system works for me most of the time:
If you're not logged into your account, the quick search on the home page will usually work (it might be always but I'm not sure) and display multiple pages of caches when you click on "next". The downside of this search is that there is no download option.
If you're logged into your account, the quick search appears to be the same as the regular search and it doesn't work quite right. You typically get one page of caches displayed but you rarely (if ever) get a second page when you click on "next". It usually happens that there is a delay after which the same first page of caches is displayed again.
A useful work-around is to change your "caches per page" setting in your account profile to get as many caches as you need on one page.
