Topic: Too many request from your IP address?

Posted by Scout on July 31 2006,7:00 pmRecently, when I try to log in, I sometimes get an error message, "Too many request from your IP address in a short time period...
Please retry 30 seconds from now."
Whatever flood control settings you're using, they're likely not working as intended. I can get this message the first time I log in since a day or more. Tonight I tried several times and finally got in. Usually I just go away and don't come back.
Posted by PC Medic on Aug. 01 2006,4:43 amAs someone that (for obvious reasons) visits the site and logs in several times a day, I have not experienced this issue or received any other complaints about it, but will certainly look into it.
Could you tell me, what start page you generally attempt to login from?
Posted by Scout on Aug. 01 2006,6:56 amI go to < http://navicache.com >
Then, I click on My Navicache.

Try as I might, I do not seem to be able to recreate those symptoms in IE or Firefox.
I will continue testing.
Posted by Scout on Aug. 01 2006,7:18 pmDon't spend too much time on it. If you can't reproduce it and no one else experiences it, either, let it go. I can live with it. Like I said, with cookies set, I'm usually logged in automatically.
Posted by Batona on Aug. 09 2006,7:14 pmI have received this too. THe throttle appears to be quite short. I can log in without issue, but if I search and then modify it, I recieve the throttle.

Our system is designed to allow uniqie throttling for each function so I may be able to tweak this a bit. First let me be sure I understand where this is occuring for you.
Are you having the problem when using the cache search form?
If yes, you say if you "search and then modify it" you receive the throttle. Do you mean if you attempt to modify/change the search criteria you tend to get the 'Too many attempts' message?

That is exactly the issue I run into.
Posted by PC Medic on Aug. 10 2006,7:11 amI have made some changes to the throttle settings.
Please let me know if the problem still occurs and what type search you are performing... distance or detailed.

Thank you. All seems to be working better in this regard.
