Topic: No Caches near Virginia Beach!

Posted by Quinn on July 27 2001,10:35 amI noticed a Huge void of Caches near the VA Beach area. This is strange seeing as how the two that are placed there get tons of hits. Such a largely populated area should be jumping with Geocaching members that could place a few to Generate more people into the sport. Even if parks or wooded lots are few there, Virtual caches make for great fun just as well.
Posted by Firemedic on Mar. 31 2002,5:26 amMy Son is in the Navy and has been stationed in VA Beach for quite a while. Right now he has been temporarly transfered to the DC area for Nurse Anestestist (sp) masters program but should be through this fall.
Since where he is the grandkids are we will be frequenting the area again. By then we will have a summers worth of cashing experience maybe I can lose an ammocan there. I can think of several good spots along Gen'l Booth drive.
Posted by PC Medic on Mar. 31 2002,6:53 amI live here in Va. Beach and there are actually 37 caches here in the Hampton Roads area, with 17 right in Va. Beach. Considering I just placed the 2n and 3rd caches in the region last July, I would say it has picked up in the area.
Now these caches range in difficulty from very easy to semi-hard but none I have been on that you should not be able to bring the kids (mine have come on all of them). Just keep in mind that while they are not crawling all over everything like in some B rated Hollywood film, we do have venomous snakes in the area, so always watch your step.
Oh, and the skeeters and Deer Flies here all have wing markings and call signs, so don't forget your favorite bug-off in the summer months.

I thought those were navy fighter craft flying over the campground. Deer flys and skeeters, huh!

First Landing has some but if you have fighter jets passing over I would say more than likely KOA or the other on General Booth.
If that is the caseand you want an interesting cache in the area try my "RedWings Treasure" in RedWing Park just down the road. You will exit the car saying, "Hell this will be easy", but belive me it is very decieving.
Let me know some time when you are in town and maybe we can meet up somewhere.
By the way, which base is your son stationed at?
Posted by Firemedic on Mar. 31 2002,10:32 amHe is at Porthmouth Naval Hospital. He is an RN. He did @10 army as airborne medic then went to college and got BSN. Navy snapped him up after graduation.
The "other" campground is the Holiday Travel Park. That is where we go.
