|I looked around the forums but I can't find a way around it.|
When I read a topic, I would like to know that I've looked it over. That way, if I come back a few days later, I can quickly look for any topics that I have not reviewed yet.
I apologize if I am not making sense but I belong to a few other forums (running phpBB or IP.Board) and it is easy for me to see what I've already read.
I think I understand what you are missing and I miss it too. I think the only way to do that would be to use a newer/another forum software. However, with the current rate of admin interaction here that seems unlikely to happen.
I didn't read all the postings which are in the forum now. What I usually use is the 'new posts' link to look at well, 'new posts'. I think (although I am not sure about that) this means all new posts since the last time you logged in.
At the moment I am essentially logging in almost every day, so it might actually mean 'every post withing the last two days or so', I couldn't tell the difference. But yes, this old style forum software lacks some of the nice features of newer types of forums. (I am especially thinking of the devision of the input fields when I quote a message in a reply. That makes it really hard to split the quoted message.)
