I have been having a rather interesting discussion over at kentucky Geocaching group www.Geocky.org about other caching websites OTHER than geocaching.com.  I have one freind, patrick, who is dis-gruntled with Navicache because he had been given ownership of a couple of caches from a cacher who moved out of state and may not be caching any more.
Patrick needed to update/edit the coordinates of "Arbustum- Waypoint#N0029C"  but could not becasue the cache was still listed as belonging to WCGreen, the original poster.
Patrick said that he emailed a few times but gave up becasue he never recieved a reply.

What is the proceedure to transfer cache ownership @ Navicache?

Well I would have to say that is Ka-Ka as we received a single email to which I personally responded within a matter of hours. I responded and explained that first, he would need to provide the name and information of the cache in question so that I could look into the matter. You see just like any other site (including GC.com) we do not transfer ownership just because someone says, hey that is my cache now. Especially when they did not even provide the name of the cache in question.

Now, "Paddy's" response to my request started "Please look in to it all you like. But I am the cache owner", so it was obvious he had his shorts all in a bunch !! However I did as I said I would and am looking into it. We do not simply turn over caches without going through certain procedures and his choice is to be patient. Seems to me he is disgruntled with the wrong folks here. We are not the ones who adopted out the cache without or did not check for other listings for over a year! Perhaps when adopting caches it would be a good idea to ask the cache owner if it is listed on any other sites and if so, remind them to also notify the admin of the other sites as well. Contrary to what some may think, GC.com is not the only game in town.

Perhaps Paddy would feel differently if some one contacted us falsely stating they had adopted one of his caches and we simply switched owners without confirming it with him. Yes, we've had attempts to 'hijack' cache listings this way in the past.

Thanks for confirming the transfer requests! I know I would be upset if someone tried to jack my cache right out from underneath me....

Hijaking the listing would be annoying, but hijaking the actual cache would be much more ANNOYING!!    :nono

But uh, why would they try to do that anyways?

Why do some people trash anothers cache? Why do some folks write viruses to spread aimlessly about the internet?

I guess they have nothing better to do!

Yes, PC ... PY is often more uptight than others would be in similar circumstances.   ...  I just want this cleared up becasue it is intereferring with my agenda to get GEOCKY.org , and  non-geocky cachers as well, to reconize Navicache and geocaching.gpsgames.org as excellent alternatives to hide and seek caches.  I think it is because I despise "monopolies" of any form and like informing others of their options.

I have also attempted to contact WCGreen, becasue he.she had relocated to the same community in which my daughter resides and in hopes of adopting a couple of her caches that another Geocky member had taken charge of.  No luck.  I fear WCGreen may have fallen off the 'net.

I have known PY for nearly a year now, I do not think he would attempt to 'hijack' anyone's cache. I will attempt to pass word to him that he needs to have WCGreen contact you about this issue

Well I would hope the fact that we will not let just anyone come along and say, "Hey I adopted this cache" without checking into it is a plus on our side.  :thumbs-up  It took us roughly 36 hours to contact the original owner and verify the adoption allowing the change of ownership in the listing. Hardly unreasonable in my opinion.

No implication he was trying to hijack the cache, but procedure is procedure.
