Hello. I've been caching about 5 months, using that "other website". Just got around to joining Navicache. I'm sure this has come up, but I don't see a recent thread. I have 5 caches placed, should I list them here, or just go with listing future placements on Navicache?  :wave

List all your caches, please :). And yes, if there is a cache on Navicache that you already found, you can log the finds here (just make sure you use the correct date for the log).

Welcome to Navicache  :thumbs-up

Oh, thanks for the reply, Welch! I'll eventually get around to listing all my previous caches on this site, as well as any new ones in the future. No rush for now, everything in my area is burried under snow and frozen to the ground anyways.

I say "LIST THEM ALL" :) , it's always good to have them on this side as well. Before heading out caching, I always check this side for new ones in out area. Not all are listed on the other side. I'm planning on listing all my new ones hear first, then the other side. Example :  I listed 2 new caches on the other side the same day as I listed here, I'm still waiting for their 36-72 hr approval ( 4 days later) , maybe their out caching instead. Navicache side listing has already been found,  :) . Seems the approvers here are eager and willing to get caches up, not tie them up. Thanks for the Fast Listing " Approvers"   SF1 :D

I too have a few caches listed on the "other site". :wave

I assume it's accepted to also list the same caches here on Navicache (duel listings)? :2cool

I don't have any issues with that "other site", the main reason for me joining Navicache is to enhance my caching adventures ... although not by much it seems atm here in Australia as there is only 1 other cache listed here in South Australia (a virtual) & a total of 6 in Australia altogether. :rolleyes

My guess is that most caches listed on Navicache are listed on gc.com as well. But I haven't checked to see if that's true.

It's a chicken-and-egg situation. Until people list caches here, there'll be no reason for geocachers to look here for caches to hunt. And if geocachers aren't in the habit of looking here, others don't think it's worthwhile to list their caches here.

My personal preference is to see caches listed only on alternative sites and not on gc.com, so that geocachers have to look elsewhere if they want to see all the caches.

Since I started this topic about 8 months ago, I have duel listed all my caches on this site, including new placements, which generally were approved several days ahead of the other website. I've also listed 2 somewhat decent virtuals on this site only, as the other site has put a complete moratorium on virtuals, despite public statements to the contrary. My virts are certainly better than about half of the super lame old ones, which have been allowed to remain listed there.

So of course you should dual list yours here :D

Unfortunate there are only 6 Navicaches in all of Australia. Don't think that it's like that everywhere; for example, this site is probably equally popular to that other one in Germany.

I'd have to agree most caches listed here are listed on the other side. There is only one Navicache only traditional cache in my area, besides the two virtuals I mention in the post above.

Other than Scout, there is also a cacher from Rochester, N.Y. who has the vast majority of their caches listed only here :p

On an unrelated matter, Scout, I tried to get a banner by just looking at the URL of yours, and replacing your username with mine, but it didn't pull down any stats. Is there something you need to do on your end to get it to work?

Nope. Try clicking on this URL: http://geocaching.gpsgames.org/cgi-bin/sig.pl?user=WhiteUrkel.

Hey, thanks Scout.

I wonder how it would go over if I put that banner on my gc.com cache description pages? I mean they've supposedly recently eliminated "stats scrapers" on their site, but they shouldn't care about other sites, you think?

Naw, better not. :nono  But it would make a nice addition to navicache.com
