I have seen this done in the states and wanted to get some opinions here about doing it on an international scale.

Heres how it goes...

Two caches are placed...three are listed.

Cache 1) Hidden by a cacher in the US (Traditional)

Cache 2) Hidden by a cacher in another country (Traditional)

Cache 3) Virtual cache (International Cache)

A cacher in US finds cache 1 (Has half of "password" to international cache)

A cacher in another country finds cache 2 (Has other half of "password" to international cache)

Each cacher at this point has received credit for a find for finding the cache hidden in their respective country.

Each cacher will have to partner with a cacher in the other country to get the other half of the password to get credit for the "International" cache.

To get credit for the international cache a cacher will have to email the complete password to the cache owner.

Now...you also have to email your partners nickname. You may only help one other cacher. You may ask a cacher from another listing service to help you providing they register with Navicache and claim credit for a find in their Country.

...any thoughts?

Many cities in the US have a "sister city" in Europe or Japan or wherever. It might be fun to hide the caches in sister cities to promote knowledge of and communication between citizens of these sister cities.

I think both (the concept and the sister cities) are good ideas.

Next question...

Where would the best place be to make contact with a cacher overseas, maybe Germany.

Does anyone have a recomendation? PM or email if you want to.

Thanks

Thanks Scout,

Boss wants me to actually work here the last few days.
I have two caches already hidden that I will be listing the next couple of weeks. I need to think this International Cache through. I don't want to promote the armchair find by being able to share the password. Any thoughts on how to prevent that behavior?

The way you're setting this up, you want them to share their half of the password. I don't see how you can prevent them from leaking it to undeserving people, if they insist on spoiling the virtual cache. You should probably arrange for cache caretakers who can change, on short notice, the physical passwords hidden in the caches, just in case the passwords leak.

I agree.
Keep in mind that there is always the risk of those that may cheat in order to log the find.

::Rewind::

What if all three caches were virtuals?

Number 1 at a US Landmark.
Number 2 at a German Landmark
Number 3 Bonus Virtual at a location to be determined.

Cacher A Submits his/her photo at landmark 1 holding up a piece of paper with his/her counterparts geoname from Germany.

Cacher B Submits his/her photo at landmark 2 holding up a piece of paper with his/her counterparts geoname from US.

When confirmed, they may each log the Bonus (International Cache) as the reward for their efforts.

The idea behind the cache is for a cacher to make contact with another cacher in a different country, work together, and be rewarded for their efforts without armchair caching.

I would add in the cache rules/description that a geocacher may only sponsor/team with ONE other geocacher or team from the other side of the water. No different then only being able to log a cache one time.

One find per cacher, that makes sense.

I think we just about have ourselves a new idea for the game. :)
