I do not know if this is the right place to post this note, but We are having a hard time finding our 1st geocache.

I  already sent this note to the person that hid theis cache, but maybe in this forum I can find even more help.

Hi, My wife and I just got into Geocaching.  The GPS unit, we have is a Magellan Explorer is modeled 210. My grandson and I decided to go look for this cache on Saturday.

"Where the Green Ferns Grow" by peaksbagger.
(N 28 07.395'   W 082 40.418')

We could not find this cache, but we did find the location of the hiking post, #14.  The reading I was receiving on my GPS was N 28 07.386'   W 082 40.379'  That was very close to the given Coordinates in the clue so we were happy. We paced off the 40 yards at 290 deg. down the gulley turned left at about 230 for about 15 yards. This brought us to a badly decomposed stump just across the original trail. We dug around the leaves in the stump, and only found an old rusty marker light frame and lens cap. What I would like to know.  Has anyone found this cache recently, or does it even exist at this location.  Like I said earlier, we are very new to this and maybe were you going about it the wrong way to find the cache. I noticed the date of the past find was about 2003, or about four years ago.  Am I too late or was this just a miss.

Thanks,
Steve _ Janet (and Tanner) :(

If the date of the most recent find was 2003, the chances are good that the cache itself is no longer there. Four years is a long time for a box to stay hidden. My suggestion is to move on to other caches. After you find a few, you'll have a better feeling for whether a cache is well hidden or just plain missing.

Oh, and you should add your own note to the cache listing reporting that you couldn't find the cache. It might help the next person decide whether to seek it or not.

I have also sent an email to the cache owner asking that they verify the cache is still in place or 'Retire' the listing.

Like Scout, I am inclined to believe this one has been abandoned or removed after not being logged for such a long period.
