Well I see Navi is in the forums at GS, See how long this tread last.
In Geocaching Topics I guess they were not awake when this topic got on.

This brings up a good point; who owns the cache?  Is it the listing service or is it the one who PLACED the cache?  If I create a cache that incorporates searching for caches here, at GC AND at Terracache will anyone list it?  Will all three?  I understand having some guidelines for safety, protection of the environment and the hobby, but it seems like they (GC) are more worried about THEIR way of doing things instead of the hobby.  The Yellow Pages don't own the business, they just direct customers to the site! :sick

The person who placed the cache owns the cache.

We would review and list it providing it meets standard guidelines.
As for the other sites, that would be entirely up to them

And those are some of the basic (common sense) guidelines I was referring to. It is not our job or intention here at Navicache.com to regulate the hobby by becoming geocache police. We are a listing service and when reviewing a particular cache submission, just because I do not think it is a very good/interesting cache, does not mean others may not enjoy it. Just think how few movies would make it to the theaters if they were released based on initial movie reviews. Yes we try and maintain a little order in what could become chaos, but I am not going to spend days arguing distance, quality or other issues with a cache owner. If they want to place it and it meets some basic guidelines, we will probably list it.

They (IMHO) look at it as a business and therefor tend to take a more business than community approach to how they run and control things. If it maximizes profits or attracts new sponsors... it's a good thing. If members don't like or enjoy it, then they can go someplace else (something myself and others I know were told more than once). Tagging themselves as the (self proclaimed) official geocaching website tended to draw the masses, the money their way. Unfortunately it also leaves many (especially newcomers) thinking that what they say must be the rule. Their site....their rules I guess and for that I can not fault them for that. We can however offer an alternative for those that are interested in a more open, community based place to go.

Very well put. This is the most sensible responce I have read after reading all their's last night. And not having a volenteer jump in with his read in post opion. Strange how people can put words in your post that is not there. I guess because they can not feel or see your emotions when you are posting gives them that right. Thanks PC Medic
