Thought it was real interesting to learn no more GC.com caches listed !,maybe this can be another plus for NC.com !Over on gpsgames.org they allow anytype of benchmarks for caching, thought NC could maybe add this category in near future,HAPPY CACHING !

I am not excited. The biggest advantage of Ed's site was that it fused various sources together, and thus it was possibly richer than any existing geocaching site alone - and it also set the ethical standarts of geocaching higher, beyond the petty rivalries of website owners and their fans. (Although even then, Ed wouldn't include sources such as geocaching.ru).

Also Buxley's contained archived cache locations it was quite interesting to study, and sometimes to seek, those.
As the Buxley - Groundspeak debacle unraveled, Ed's side gradually lost content, until it's become almost conetnt-less a few days back. I wish somebody has its mirror saved someplace! It was a great way to home in on caches, even if it wasn't up to date. Now I guess I have no choice but to pay Jeremy for his premium content and to learn some stupid software gimmicks for .gpx visualization. And of course I have to abandon Navicache since it remains pretty much useless on its own, without its being mixed with the more abundant data of gc.com

I think you let us down big way, Ed. :(

An unfortunate event for geocacher's as a large number of them use Buxley's Maps, but I fully understand Ed's reasoning and hats off to him for standing by his principals.

I don't think it is Ed that is letting down the Geocaching community.

GPSgames.org has geocaching maps that include caches from Navicache, opencaching.de, geocaching.com.au, and of course, gpsgames.org. I'll include caches from geocaching.ru if someone from that site would contact me to show me how.

Groundspeak caches are not included, at Groundspeak's request. Same for tc.com.

A good thing to remember for those of you into Geocaching for only a year or two, is that Buxley was the first to come up with a means to map Caches the way he has. It was then copied (the idea that is) and never given credit for.
Same goes for Navicache with the cache icons you see for things such as Fee's, dogs allowed, bathrooms, etc. We were the first to use them and then were copied.

Buxley's Maps site is down.  I know it is a 3rd party tool, but was wondering if anyone knows if this is planned / temporary?

Error I get is
Quote
Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Apache/1.3.42 Server at brillig.com Port 80

Get the error, whether I go to http://www.brillig.com/geocaching or simply to http://www.brillig.com/.

I know it says it is temporary, but I don't know how to contact Buxley to confirm.  Obviously, I'll check later, but...

Thanks!

Appears it was just temporary as it is back on-line (at the moment any way). I have sent Ed an email to verify.

Thanks.  That'll help me this weekend.  I hope to hit a couple NC virts near Wildwood, NJ while I'm up there with our scouts for Beach Jam.  Will depend on how things go, though.
