Well...roadkill went and done it this time. He took out a local news crew on a Geocaching hunt to show them what it is all about. The good thing is that he left his hat home and now we won't have to wear bags over our heads when it reaches the tube. He took them after Gimpys greenway cache was the funny part. It would have made a better story if they were shooting tape about a month ago, then they could have seen me throwing a fit in the woods for leaving my keys out there with my glasses. :p  It would have been even funnier if when it was seen on TV that Roadkill picks up the Cache and it is filled with bullet holes from when I was throwing my tissy fit :^^  Noe the less I am sure the local news 13 did a great job with Roadkill and that all will go great. They contacted me and want to put on the finishing touches on the second of january so you will likely see it around that time. roger or I will keep you posted. Lucky for you guys that I am one hot looking dude and will make up for Roadkills lack of :grinnin

Yup...He's a ham all right! I didn't know who it was at first because there wasn't a skunk on his head! :grinnin
I don't even know why he's got a smile on his face, he wasn't the one that found the cache :p

Skunk hat? I always thought roadkill's hat came from a night when a fox and a duck both had way to much to drink and woke up the next mourning regretting what had happened a few hours before. :D

OK its time for the star to make an appearance before his fan club. I would have shown myself sooner except Well  You just dont know how stressful fame can be.  Ive heard it said that as one climbs the ladder of success he never forgets those who provided support along the way.

BUT  BACK TO REALITY:  I want you all to know that this afternoon I sent Doug an E-mail thank you and, with daring, I attached 2 photos - The one shown above and the traditional Road Kill photo, hat and all.  I asked him not to be alarmed and provided an explanation edited here for you.
------------
During our cache run you asked the question a number of times "Why do you like caching?"  I know I gave you some valid reasons, but there is another I probably didn't tell you. That is the friendships that develop with other cachers. Case in point can be seen at the Navicache web site.  When you have time go to the site and (I instructed him how to get to the "Road Kill goes Hollywood" topic).  Now read down thought the comments and see the needling I'm exposed to. (all in good taste amongst friends). As you read you'll see the topic often drifting to mention of "That Hat".

This brings us to the reason I sent the second photo. I sent this photo to Quinn way back in March the give him a chuckle. Well the hat I'm wearing in the photo has become an icon to my handle. As Road Kill I've had to endure catcalls as Skunk Boy, user of "Rogaine for Critters", but usually its "The man with that hat".  I'm telling you all this but it's not about the hat. It's about the joking, chatting and the building of friendships with total strangers.  Though it wasn't friends that got me started caching - these guys (& gals) are one of the main reasons I'm still caching.
-----------
I cant wait until this airs either and Id be lying if I said I dont enjoy wallowing in the additional attention.  BTW while I have YOUR attention I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

The Geocaching story will be on Rochester, NY. News station channel 13 (ABC) at 5PM today 1/03/02  :)  I am not sure if it will also be on at 6pm so for those in the area you may wish to tape it.

Just got word myself. The actual story will be near the tail end of the news around 5:50PM.  Look for Doug, Road Kill & my coworker Woodhauler.

I can't remember but I think I was the one Grinning. :grinnin

Is there a website or some way an out-of-town celebrity hound such as myself can see you in action?

If nothing else, could I send you $10 Paypal for a copy on videotape?

I've yet to see a single newscast about geocaching, though all my friends keep approaching me with the details when they have.

I first learned of this hobby through the sci newsgroup.
I'm wondering what percentage of cachers in general watched a TV spot and decided to give it a try?

Hey, Choberiba. 13s web site is http://www.rochestertoday.com  .Not sure if you'll be able to view it simultaniously, but you can for sure view the whole newscast afterward.

I tried to email you but received a message that my mother wears combat boots or that your email was private or something.

I'd like to pay for shipping at least.

What amazed me, was that I placed that cache 2 months ago, & pretty much everyone here at Navicache has logged it, & the campers toilet paper was still in there. :grinnin  But really, the piece was very well done. The family aspect was touched on, cache in/trash out, & just the good old fashioned fun of it all. Everything was positive. And when I got home from work around midnight, I had an e-mail waiting for me from a Jim in Rush, NY, not far down the road from me. Has a II Plus, never heard of geocaching, & came to the Navicache site after seeing the ch. 13 piece. Said he saw my name around here a lot & thought he'd contact me for some more info. I encouraged him to come back here, register, & jump right in. Told him I'd be more than happy to go out on a few maiden cache adventures with him to help him get the feel for it. Sure hope he takes me up on it. Very well done, gentlemen. You did Navicache proud. :D

Gimpy, you said "the campers toilet paper was still there", thanks to Mrs. Rocky was is correct. These women have to have everything just for a walk in the woods.  Great story, all very positive, made me proud to be a navicacher

I recieved a letter in the mail from Doug and Channel 13 News yesterday thanking us for the great story that made for a nice segmant on the news. He also thanked me for providing him with the GPSR you saw him holding on the news. He informed me his intentions are to give it a go with his son's and to also let the other members at the station use it because they expressed a great interest in giving the sport a try.  :)

Fifteen minutes of fame wasn't enough, now Roadkill's a style setter!  Check out the Dilbert comic strip for today (1/17/02).  It's on www.dilbert.com if it's not in your local paper. :rotflmao

Ah yes. I wrote Scott Adams (Dilbert creator) today and threatened law suit. His people will be in contact with my people.

The hat has a copywrite and it may sell better than Navitees soon. Hee Hee. :rotflmao
