I was contacted via E-mail today by Doug from a local news station here in Rochester, NY. He will be stopping by tomorrow ( 01/03/02) to finish a Geocaching story that "Roadkill" started with him a couple weeks back.
I wanted to be able to give him some more ideas from other Geocachers as to why they like Geocaching so much as well as what they think the future will bring for the sport.
I intend on letting him read these posts so be kind ;) It does not matter where you are from, so any thoughts you may have please feel free to drop them here. Once I know an exact time and day the story will go on air I will let you know!  :)

I moved to the Bay Area of California from San Diego in October of 1993.

I can't remember going on a single hike until I learned of geocaching in August of 2001.

I'm getting out and seeing some incredible sights.
I'm enjoying nature again and feeling a connection with the area that I never had before.

Were I to move to another state, I would have an easy way to familiarize myself with it's surroundings.

The world seems much friendlier now.

There is another, more somber side my story in that my wife and I divorced last year. All our friends were mutual, so until I found out about geocaching and was given a way to connect with new people, my life seemed somewhat empty.

An apartment full of gadgets does not a friend make.

The reason I like geocaching so much is that it gives me an another reason to go out and hike.  I've climbed moutains, been to glaciers, and a bunch of other cool places I would never have gotten to on my travels across the US if it wasn't for geocaching.  Since caches are usually placed by locals you get to see the amazing places that are not in the tourist books.  The journey to the cache is the key.  Finding the cache is completing the journey.  Another thing I like is the sense of community, especially here at navicache.  Hearing from others who enjoyed a cache that you put time and effort into placing is also rewarding.

My story pretty much mirrors Choberibas', except my divorce came about 10 years prior to my introduction to this great sport/activity. The new bride, of 8 or 9 years,(I think?), is almost as much into this as I am. We really enjoy getting out together & hiking to all the different areas that this activity has introduced us to. In fact we've had a REAL good time on a couple of hikes in the woods, but we won't go there. :^^  There's something about riding shotgun on 6 or 7 hour Dashing adventures that didn't tickle her fancy, but the nearby caching adventures she enjoys. Being a part of this great communty here at Navicache has been a big plus as well. Her son, Keith, 13 yrs. old, can't wait to get out with us too. Sometimes he'll bring along a friend or 2, and they all have a great time. No better way to get out with the family & get some fresh air & exercise. Now, if my knees were only as willing as the rest of me to climb these hills & trails. But then, what would I come up with for a caching nick-name. :grinnin

I love caching so much because it has brought together a group of neat friends, including our Cub Scouts.  Geocaching as a hobby and sport through all of it's mediums is #1 - ct

Glad you and your scouts enjoy Geocaching :^: , it is a great sport. Also, unlike trolling it is an excellent way to get them outdoors into nature and working as a team to learn to navigate and solve problems.
