The following URL appeared in 'another place', which points you to a site offering a way of sending a TB out witout needing to buy a tag.

I know of at least one other Navicacher who's logged on, although he does seem to have emigrated!  :rotflmao

Oh, nearly forgot, the URL is Geolutins

Just off to buy a small cuddly toy or two.  :^:

That would be me. Bonjour, Morseman.

Geolutins are a free way to tag any object for tracking. You use the Web site to generate a unique ID and print out a page to attach to the object. Finders are instructed to log their find at the Geolutins Web site and move the Geolutin object to another location, which could be a geocache, but could probably be anywhere else as well (like bookcrossing).

I've created two Geolutins myself. No logs by anyone else yet.

How does this compare to the Navicache HH forum?
In the forum you just start a new topic and direct people to go to that forum(no numbers), right?  ???

I've tried the NaviCache Hitchhiker Forum method where the cache's post/instructions clearly indicated the use of the HH Forum for tracking: Buffalo Bill's Cache, but it looks like the IkonBoard link broke & I need to fix it.

In a NaviCache log book, I've tried leaving instructions that point to a particular HH Forum: Sea Breeze Turtle, but one of the last HH stops got double posted (NaviCache & the other) and the Turtle got "lost" in the other system.

Lastly, I've left my email addy on a HH for those who are too lazy to register into Forums or add to a thread.

All-in-all, if anything can go wrong, it will.  Facing dead ends, I've even emailed all NaviCache visitors after a placement date to ask if they were a "taker" and where they may have re-hid.  Seldom do I get a Reply.

Using the forums to track hitchhikers works fine for small numbers of hitchhikers. Right now there's about one page of them. But it wouldn't work as well if there were hundreds or thousands of hitchhikers being tracked this way. For that, you probably want a database designed specifically for hitchhikers.

Besides Geolutins ( http://www.geolutins.fr.st/ ), there's a new Web site for tracking hitchhikers. Check out http://www.travelertags.com .

I think it was the word that guy in charge of that site came up with.  :D
