|Okay, "dumb question time" given that it appears that there are so many people who are unhappy with the way things are there. Way don't they either try to change things or if TPTB are unwilling to make changes to keep their user base happy. Then why don't they leave taking their caches with 'em???|
I don't know what the reasoning is why things don't change and why complaints / suggestions are, for the most part, ignored.
As far as leaving, I think once navicache gets a foothold, there will be a good alternative. In the meantime, though, with not many people realizing this service is here and just how much better it is, there is a lack of listings in areas, and one would have to travel quite a ways to continue caching once the more local ones are logged.
We've noticed the lack of caches listed on Navicache around our area and are trying to populate it as we can. We're also trying to get the word out about Navicache any chance we get.
Yes, there's a big 'tude regarding 'numbers' ... around our area, caching groups actually celebrate 1K finds with a dedicated event. We were getting involved in getting to that magical 1K number, but in light of recent happenings, we've come back down to earth and realize that hey, we do this for fun and to spend time together! If it takes us three years to make 1K, then so be it .. and if anyone doesn't like it, well, that more or less indicates what is important to them
I guess that TPTB feel that they “own” the whole concept of Geocaching, and that they’re the final word on what is and isn’t allowed in Geocaching. And that they don’t have to do anything to please their user base. And that once nc.com and tc.com really take off, they’re going to find their users/members moving to friendlier waters.
I think that probably true of tc.com as well. As right now there are only 2 caches that are within about 20-miles of my home location. And neither of ‘em are in my town. :-( Also sadly they don’t approve/allow for cross posting/listing of caches. :-( I’ve noticed that too, I think that there’s only like 3 nc.com caches nearby.:-(
If a cacher wants to make a big deal out of it then that’s one thing, but for other’s to make a big deal out of it or to place an importance on a high number count is tacky.
Very well said, it should be about spending time with friends and family as well as making new friends. And spending time outdoors, and learning about areas that we might not have otherwise gone. Then it should be about the numbers. And yer right, if they don’t or can’t get that for some hopefully most of us. That’s it about the hunt, friendship, and family then it is about the numbers.
