Note 08 Jun 2007    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

last i heard, this one is inactive at the moment, possibly forever. does anyone use navicache any more?

I couldn 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Park  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

i did these in order today, although i went to purgatory before the tunnel. this was the only cache i did not find, although perhaps i should have. i will contact a couple of people for further info before posting my final results. for now i will mark it DNF, and advise that you bypass this one for the next day or two until there is additional information.

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Goose Attack  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1 )

i questioned why i wanted to attempt this series after striking out at bikeathon - park. i spent a minute or two looking and trying to pinpoint my search area. according to my GPSr, i wanted to be somewhere out on the thin ice. but within a couple minutes of looking, i spied it, and faith in my skills were restored. onto “bridge.”

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Bridge  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

i don’t bicycle this trail much, because hardware’s bike, bicycling regimen and this trail aren’t a great combination. but i did pedal down this trail a few times this summer. did i know i was riding past a geocache? of course not. now i do. onto “curves.”

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Curves  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

stop number 4 was a quick one. i had a rare moment of geo-wisdom as i was trying to pinpoint the search area. like a moth to flame....

following this stop i doubled back to bennett park, as i decided i might be better off repositioning my dodge viper. i’m all for exercise, but i was getting plenty, and i had a deadline to meet.

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Wall  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

this took a couple of minutes to zero in on the search area, but it came to me pretty easily. two to go!

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Marsh  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

in my haste to begin searching for the only regular cache in this series, i trusted my GPSr’s first instinct. bad idea. after a couple of minutes it pointed me to the other side of the trail, and bingo bango bongo i spied the cache. (the container seems awfully familiar, knowhatimean rickrich?)

i took one of the scooby-doo toys and left a colorful pencil and nifty photo album thingy that was in ‘hardware’s halloween haunt’ when i pulled it in early november. back to the corvette for a cameo at purgatory. will there be time to visit ‘tunnel?’

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Bikeathon - Tunnel  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

i made it! while i struck out at the first cache of the series, for reasons probably beyond my control, i was successful at cache two through six and had time left after a visit to purgatory to visit ‘tunnel.’

i was familiar with this tunnel thanks to rickrich’s placing of ‘moving 123’ inside of it last winter. so i knew a nearby place to park the volvo. while dyl’s description notes it may be hard to see, had i not read moe’s note about wanting a flashlight, i probably wouldn’t have had the foresight to bring one. it was a small flashlight, but it did exactly what i needed it to.

i intended to conquer this series during bicycling season, but never did. it would have been easier getting from point to point, but had the weather been nice, i would have been met by muggles on more than a few occasions. and my bike isn’t the best for this trail system, so i was better off doing this on foot, even if i repositioned the car a couple of times to get to all seven spots.

it was a decent december day to be out on the trails, and i’m glad i was. thanks for a great series of caches. here’s hoping i get to log a find for ‘park.’

I found it! 01 Dec 2004    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

i arrived at approximately 14:35. i grabbed the coordinates, headed in that direction, climbed a hill and scratched my head, wondering where the path of least resistance was. i took a circular route around the cache hide, finding plenty of small trails in my search for the golden road, but i couldn’t find it. so i cut through some nasty brush to get to the cache. turns out i could have reached it rather easily had i initially ventured right instead of left. live and learn.

i left a lizard and two rocks, as well as a laker i picked up at 11:05 to start my day. i took a quarter to replenish the supply i chewed through recently when i took the ‘81 camaro downtown.

i moved the cache to the other side of the park, in the same spot i hid it last time i visited. the topography of the hiding spot changed slightly. the ratings formula gives my location a difficulty of 2 with a terrain of 3. Ko-tis-vey found it in march, and didn’t report too much difficulty in obtaining it. we’ll see how it goes this time.

this was my seventh cache of the day. i had one bikeathon cache to visit on my way out of town before calling it a day.
