A Quicker Paddle

CACHE LOGS - May contain hints(spoilers)!   decode

Note 10 Sept 2013    A Quicker Paddle  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

It's now listed on geocaching.com ... it was still there, as of a couple months ago anyway.

Note 25 Aug 2013    Ghost's Domain  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

A lot of people logged in here today, as I had a new puzzle cache that ended very near it. I knew this one was in the general area, but didn't realize how close it was! It's been many years (8!) since I stopped by here last, nice to see the cache is still present, though getting very few visitors.

Unfortunately this cache is locked on geocaching.com so people can't get their smile for it there. I'm sure some will log it here?

You still around, Quinn?

Note 03 Mar 2012    A Quicker Paddle  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

I don't recall if this is still there or not.

But I'm going to archive it, in the hopes it will become a lost cache.

Note 24 May 2011    The Dead Marshes  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 4 )

"how many people use this? "

Not many. Wheelygood and myself are probably the only ones that ever look here.

Note 12 Apr 2011    The Dead Marshes  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 4 )

You don't see new navicaches much these days ... too bad this is a bit out of my range to go for!

I found it! 23 Nov 2010    Northampton's Treasure  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1.5 )

First navicache I've done in a while. Nice day to be caching on the west side. TFTC.

Note 05 Apr 2010    My Walking Stick  ( Difficulty: 4    Terrain: 1 )

So is this like Brogan's traveling hiking stick?

Note 03 Feb 2010    R U a Bushwhacker?  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 3 )

It would be amazing to see a find log on this after all these years!

I found it! 15 Oct 2009    GPS-O (Mendon Ponds Park)  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 4 )

We had a team building event today doing orienteering in Mendon. Great! I can finally get enough controls to complete this virtual!

We broke into 6 teams of 4 people or so and split off to see who could complete the most controls and get the most points. We assigned points by making the simple ones 1 pt, medium 2 pts, and difficult 3 pts. My team found 14 controls for a total of 30 points. The best team got 31 points, dang! Missed it by that much!

We spent most of our time on the east esker trail and found all the controls we were looking for. It was a chilly day to start, but once we were moving nobody was complaining about the cold any longer.

Thanks for the virtual hide here!

Controls found: 1,6,9,12,13,14,15,16,18,20,21,22,23,24

Note 25 Aug 2009    Four Windows  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I'm thinking you're going to have a few less than 10,000 logs here.

Note 20 Jun 2009    Harlow Lake Hike  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Maybe I can convince the family for a stop here on the way to Buffalo tomorrow.

Note 10 Jun 2009    A Quicker Paddle  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

Log entry was deleted.

Note 08 Jun 2009    A Quicker Paddle  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

For now this is navicache only as there is a cache on geocaching.com that is too close. However that one seems to be missing so if it get archived this will be cross listed.

I found it! 03 May 2009    White Deer of Seneca Lake  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

The Seneca white deer organization occasionally conducts tours of the old army depot. My wife saw an article in the newspaper a couple months back, and purchased tickets for the family.

We met at the fire station just North of the depot on 96A at 8am this morning (ugh, had to leave real early to get there.)

We got there a bit early so I thought we'd drive down a bit along the fence just to see if we could spot some deer. I've never seen them before, but always look when I drive by. Normally I probably drive by during the mid day when all the deer are sleeping, and I've never had any luck. Finally this morning we saw a half dozen or so from outside the fence. Cool! Let's skip the tour and go back home to bed! :^)

At 8am we boarded the bus and headed in. They had to hire a security guard to guard the gate today as it was unlocked and opened up for the tour buses. I suppose they needed the guard to make sure nobody else let themselves in while it was unlocked.

We saw lots of deer, white and brown, throughout the morning. We also learned a lot about the history of the base, saw a number of the old buildings still standing, and saw lots of the bunkers used to store ammunition and nuclear weapons.

Also saw lots of birds including eagles, different hawks, owls, turkey, osprey, etc ... Lots of evidence of beaver from the trees felled and not yet collected for their dams.

There were lots of train cars on the tracks here; apparently the base (owned mostly by the town now?) charges a fee for storing the cars here during the recession since they are not being used as much as they used to.

Very neat area; I'm glad we made it. The organizers are big into developing this into a tourist attraction, rather than developing it into commercial and/or residential space. They have lots of ideas, but I can't see them flying economically.

One interesting idea was to renovate the bunkers to be used as "bunker and breakfast" units. I suppose they could be used as an alternative to cabins for camping in; I'd definitely try it out to say I slept in a bunker. Hopefully they are no longer radio active!

I'll post pictures when I upload them tonight from my camera.

I found it! 05 Apr 2009    Big Mama's Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

I saw this listed last week, so I rushed out the next morning with Barkley at first light. I had been here before to the original cache, but Barkley hadn't so he wanted to go.

It was still a bit dark when we got to the parking, but not dark enough that I needed a flashlight. We had a nice walk to the cache along the trail, passing by a tent that I assume a homeless person or a couple of kids had set up.

We got to GZ and expected a quick find, as the original ammo can was quite large. But nadda. How could I miss it? I thought maybe the hiding spot was in a different spot than the original spot, so we expanded the search area. After about 25 minutes of no luck I realized my luck got worse: I lost my GPS. Oh crap! So I spent the next 35 minutes not looking for the cache, but looking for the GPS. I finally found it hanging on a branch I leaned over on, and by now Barkley was really fed up and was threatening to eat me if we didn't get going.

So I stopped the search for the cache, and headed out. When I got home the listing on the other site was gone. I had seen retracted listings here, but not there before. Turns out the cache shouldn't have gone live yet. After posting my DNF I got a note from the cache owner indicating it wasn't ready yet. I explained these things happen, in fact Chemist Kahuna had done it a couple times, so I told him I got "Kahuna'd" (no disrespect to Mr Kahuna - it's all part of the fun.)

I had a heads up that this would go live again this weekend, so after picking Barkley up from the kennel he expressed his desire to erase the DNF we had earlier, so we made the drive back out here again. The tent was still there, and still no signs of people in it or around it. This time we made the find pretty easily, before heading back down the trail to do another cache I hadn't done before.

Thanks for the fun, and return trip!

I couldn 28 Mar 2009    Big Mama's Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Found the remains if the old cache. Is there a new one here?

Note 28 Mar 2009    Big Mama's Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Picked up most of the remains of the old cache. There is still a big stuffed animal there I couldn't grab.

I found it! 28 Feb 2009    A cache with no name  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I was a bit surprised to see about 30 names in the logbook ahead of me going back a couple of years.

I don't recognize this spot as a spot a cache used to be in. Perhaps it is a letterbox? I'll check the letterbox sites to be sure.

A log from boots... indicated he found it while looking for a waypoint of another now archived cache.

Note 28 Feb 2009    A cache with no name  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Well I looked around at the letterboxing sites and could come up with no match for this cache. There was a large group of people that visited it all on the same day, which makes me think somebody put out this as a private cache for a Christian group (judging from all the "praise God" type comments in the first bunch of logs.) Could have been a youth group that put out the cache and decided never to list it on the site, and never picked it up.

The "owner" of the cache on Navicache.com didn't put it out, and also stumbled across it.

I recognized a few cacher names, as most of them were looking for another cache. I don't recall a waypoint of whiting road multi at this particular spot, but it must have been at some point.

Note 28 Feb 2009    A cache with no name  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Oh by the way, I feel like I've been "chile'd" on this cache. See: http://www.navicache.com/cgi-bin/db/displaycache2.pl?CacheID=8510

That was a cache I also found while geocaching which was never listed anywhere, and I listed it here because I couldn't list it on gc.com because it was too close to another. Cache-n-release and Beaverbunch rushed out to find it, only to see a few random names (and my own) in the logbook.

I couldn 27 Feb 2009    CARON S CACHE  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I thought what the heck, let's see if this is still here. I had a nice walk into the cache area, and came across one other walker along the way on this drizzly cool day.

I looked around for about 40 minutes with no luck. I saw a pile of parallel placed sticks, very cache stick looking, but no cache was underneath it.

There was a large mound nearby that looked promising, but there were a ton of animal burrows and I didn't want to disturb a coyote or skunk family.

I was disappointed to leave without a find. Hopefully it's still there, but 5+ years without anybody finding it ...

Note 27 Feb 2009    A cache with no name  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Well I just got back from a DNF on a navicache only listed cache on the other side of the city: http://www.navicache.com/cgi-bin/db/displaycache2.pl?CacheID=523

and saw this one pop up. I'll have to consider an early morning run.

Note 17 Feb 2009    Together Forever  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

To make CC happy, I read the log.

Note 19 Nov 2008    Barkley's Poker Drop Off  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

I couldn't recall if I had picked this one up when I retired it. I think I did, but I wanted to prevent it from becoming a "lost cache" from the kissing cousins. I looked this morning, and couldn't find it where I thought its hiding spot was, but it was snowy out and I probably picked it up already.

Note 15 Oct 2008    Blue Blazes  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

navicache only? Wheely says its too close to a cache listed on gc.com

Note 31 May 2008    Box in the Woods  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Pep yelled at me for not archiving this one since I archived it from geocaching.com, so here we go watchlist.

Note 19 May 2008    sports101  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

"What did you take?"

Nothing. I don't normally trade.

I found it! 18 May 2008    sports101  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

I saw this listed yesterday on decided I'm come either today or tomorrow. I had a bit of time today, so Barkley and I made the stop up here.

It was a quick find, but I was a bit surprised to see that Heavy Jester had found it a week ago.

Thanks for the hide!

Note 26 Feb 2008    Slipping and sliding  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Note 22 Jan 2008    North Bay@Big Moose Lake  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Wow - going on 3+ years and I'm the only one who searched for this one.

It would be nice if this could be listed on geocaching.com to get some more activity on it. I wonder if your home location was a problem to get it listed, as I recall you have caches in the Rochester area too which might make this out of your home area. You could always get a local cacher to be a backup maintainer if needed (that's not an offer, as I also live in Rochester!)

I found it! 28 Dec 2007    Valley Of The Inukshuk  ( Difficulty: 4.5    Terrain: 4.5 )

While looking for Wheelygood's "Beyond Lower Falls" cache I stopped by to find it. I was the only one in the group that hadn't found this one yet. I've been nearby before with other groups, but never made it down.

The approach wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been - certainly it was easier than the final of the "Beyond Lower Falls" cache! Thanks for the cache in a really cool area.

Note 17 Oct 2007    Shagbark  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Ah darn. Had I seen this early in the morning I might have made the drive out. Not many people watching navicache.com these days!

I couldn 24 Jun 2007    Genesee River Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2 )

While in the area searching for another cache I took another look for this one. I think it may be gone. Or, I suck. Or both.

Note 13 Mar 2007    Landing: Via Chance  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

I found it! 24 Mar 2006    Big Daddy's Cache  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

I saw this get listed yesterday but was unable to get out until this morning. Last time I was in the area peppermill and I were looking for a FTF but had been beaten by Wheely by minutes. I don't remember the details, but I seem to recall having to give Wheely a ride back to Webster because he lost his keys or locked them in his car in the FTF rush!

Nice walk to the cache. Quiet morning with only a single biker on the canal path. There were a couple times I thought about going off the path, but I'm glad I waited until I did. While walking to the cache I came across another path I didn't know ran parallel (more or less) to the canal path.

WOW ... biggest ammo can ever! Put the first log in the logbook about 7:30am, left poker chips took nothing. Thanks for the cache!

I found it! 24 Nov 2005    Night Stalker Part 1 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found the info I needed! I can't say I've seen a cemetery with so many statues though! On to part 2.

I've been meaning to do this since the Magellan contest last year.

I found it! 24 Nov 2005    Night Stalker Part 2 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

I've been meaning to do this one since the Magellan contest last year. I was pretty sure I knew what to do with the numbers after failing at Isabel last year (never got a chance to return yet.)

Had difficulty opening the cache, but persistence paid off. Too much rust on a part of the cache.

Camera was full, so I pulled it and I'll send it in for you and post the digital pics here. It expired years ago though, so hopefully it will still work!

Thanks for the fun!

I found it! 24 Nov 2005    Red Falls View  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 3 )

Luck was not with me this morning. I had seen this as well last night but didn't feel like going, as I had plans on getting up early to do "The River, the trails, the rails" in the morning. This morning I thought about heading up to do this, but didn't think I'd have time to fit it and "River" in before going to Buffalo for turkey day.

After enjoying the long walk on "River", I was about 0.7 miles from my car when a new cache came out nearby. I raced back to my car and drove over, only to have been beaten by FishyKid by about 30 seconds.

Not having my FTF fix, I then drove quickly up north as I had finished River quicker than I thought and had a little bit of time to spare (I didn't.)

Saw the peppermobile in the lot, so I knew my FTF chances were slim. Thought for sure Wheely would have been here last night or early in the morning anyway.

Raced in and saw the peppermills still walking. But as has happened a couple times in recent memory, they got to the cache first as I thought it be more "over there".

It was more of a stumble than going down. And my pants were already muddy before I started!

I really enjoy this park. I was here over the summer looking for a pre-find for the Magellan contest, but it turned out it wasn't even close to this park.

I was in the area on official business and decided to finally find this cache. I have a cache of my own nearby that I didn't check on as I didn't have coords for it.

This was a very unwheely like cache. I didn't have to think, strain myself, or risk life and limb to find it.

RealmOfMyst found this a couple months ago b ut hasn't logged it .. slacker!

Contents a bit damp, but not too bad.

I found it! 15 Oct 2005    Widewaters  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

I was debating going for this one or Solitude first. I chose Solitude as it was on my way anyway. Beav's car was at the trailhead so my FTF chances were low. When I reached the trailhead, Beav let on like he hadn't found it yet. Then disappeared.

Surely Beav wouldn't lie to get a few minutes on me, so I cut the search short and ran back to the car. Beav's car was still here. Odd ... I was pretty sure he found it already (he head) but I headed out East anyway.

At the first wp was a mom and her son looking for it. I found it right away and gave Mom a hint as son was circling.
On my way to wp2 Beav sends me an email saying don't hurry he found this one too. Darn! Beaten by Beav twice in a day.

Oh well ... This time I continued on to the final and had to wait for a family to pass before doing the search. They kept looking back at me like I was going to jump them or something. Opened the box to find Beav was full of beaver poop!

Put the FTF in the logbook and headed for home, typing this on the way.

Nice afternoon for a stroll ... The drizzle had stopped, and it was cool.

I got up early planning to do this one and others nearby before work, but I didn't end up getting up early enough to do aby others.

It was still very dark when I arrived and I missed the trailhead as it wasn't as obvious as the trail head just down the road. I saw on my gps there was a trail running mostly parallel.

The trail starts right next to a house so I left my flashlight off when I started so I wouldn't annoy them.

There seem to be a couple of trails spurring off this one, but I didn't explore as I didn't know if they were public or not.

When I got to the cache area I was pretty sure I knew where it was. I was right, but made it a bit harder than I should. Found the cache after a few minutes of looking.

FTF at 6:45am. Took ftf prize and jeep, left chile bandana and another tb.

It was a bit lighter out when I returned, but I was surprised how dark it still was at this time.

Thanks for the hide!

Well, that shows you what I get for looking at the gc.com listings before the nc.com listings for Quinn's caches! I neglected to check it on nc.com, but was in the area and I knew this was here from an archived listing on gc.com.

It's not there, as was stated a year ago. Oh well.

I found it! 03 Oct 2005    Morgans Adventure  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

13th of 13 today.

I've been stressed out at work lately, and I finally had a chance to take some time off after working late hours & weekends.

I printed out this listing from the geocaching.come website (although it's listed as archived there.) I thought I checked this site as well for it, but I guess I didn't. Which is why I was surprised there were a number of recent logs on this cache, including one yesterday.

Lately I've been looking for archived caches when I go out for a day of caching because often they are archived "for personal reasons" (like this one), archived because the owner thought it was missing and was too lazy to check it (when it was still there), or just exited the sport and retired all their caches.

It's fun to find an archived cache, although in this case it was only archived on one site.

Cache is in fine shape, and was easy to find once I was on the proper side of the trail.

Thanks for the hide!

I couldn 03 Oct 2005    Planes, Trains and Automobiles  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 3.5 )

Again, I'm foiled because I only looked at the archived geocaching.com web site listing (which says it's still there), and not this one (which says it's retired.)

Oh well ... I had a nice walk to the cache!

I found it! 13 Aug 2005    Corbett's Glen  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Last night was our monthly game night we have with a couple of other couples from church, so I was unable to go when this was first listed.

While not as many people check navicache.com as geocaching.com, I still thought for sure this cache would have been found last night. I got up early this morning, expecting to see a note from Wheelygood on this cache, but he hadn't posted one.

I was feeling pretty good about this one, as I found another of the hider's caches (North Bay @ Big Moose Lake) recently in the Adirondacks. It had been hidden about 9 months ago with no finds! It was listed only on navicache.com, but I was surprised nobody even logged that they searched for it.

This is one of my favorite parks around. I can't say why exactly, but I've always enjoyed walking on the trails here. Since they have recently opened up the Northern end of the park with a new trail head (are the trails there new?), I've been able to enjoy it more.

I would love to live at the house nearby the cache. Seems nice and isolated, close to the stream and trails.

When I got to the cache area, I realized I could have benefited from a flashlight. It was still relatively dark (just before 6am) which made searching some areas a bit more tricky. Luckily my cell phone's backlight is pretty bright, so I used that to illuminate various nooks and crannies until I found the cache.

Thanks for the hide! FTF about 6am, I think this is my 3rd FTF in this park.

Oh sure ... this one comes out when I can't go!

I found it! 10 Aug 2005    Ghost's Domain  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Wow ... nice to see that this really old cache is still in business. And it's in such good shape too - the logbook is still pristine, the container is clean and dry. It's surprising after all these years that nobody has muggled it yet, as it's not too far off the beaten path.

I stopped here first before an evening of caching at the park. Wouldn't you know it, but there was a couple picknicking not more than 50 ft from the cache. There was no way I could find it that way.

Instead, I hiked down the road and did two other nearby caches, and returned here again. Rats! The couple was still there. Don't they have lives? Shouldn't they be out caching or something?

I drove to another nearby multicache, hoping it would give me enough time to come back here again.

After finding Duck, Duck, Goose I came back. Great - the cars that were here before are gone, and so are the people. It didn't take more than a minute or two of poking with my hiking stick to hear the thud of an ammo can.

Thanks for the hide!

It would be really nice if you listed this on geocaching.com again. Maybe not all your caches, but this is such a historical cache for the area, it would be nice to have the newer cachers (like myself ... am I still new?) find some of the older ones.

I found it! 31 Jul 2005    North Bay@Big Moose Lake  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

No logs on this one, but I was sure it had been found as it was put out so long ago and another nearby cach (Billy's Bald Spot) also had no logs but had finds in the logbook.

We were staying on Big Moose Lake about a mile away as the crow flies (about 1.5 miles by paddle). I wanted to get out all week and finally convinced my wife and son to go out for a canoe ride.

I wasn't sure if we would have time to paddle this far, but I turned up the power and made it.

Got to the dock and wouldn't you know it ... a boat was there with about 15 people partying. The cache was right there so there was no way to search w/o being seen.

Luck was with us, as as soon as we got there they started to pack up. We only had to wait a few minutes before starting the search.

We found the cache easily, and were surprised there were no logs other than the owner.

Left a chile bandana, took a japanese thingy for my son.

Thanks for the fun!

I found it! 28 Jul 2005    Billy's Bald Spot@Big Moose Lake  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Not sure why there aren't any found entries on this cache ... there were plenty in the logbook some time ago.

We are staying nearby and I thought I'd go for this one for a far-fetched chance at a FTF. This cache is listed on navicache.com but not geocaching.com, so I thought not as many people would have seen it.

Tough hike up from the parking area ... at least the way I took. I was happy to reach the top and see the lean-to for a much deserved rest. It took me some time to find the cache ... not sure why, as the coords were good but I didn't look in the obvious spot first.

I found it! 03 Jul 2005    Cemetery Knickknacks  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

I saw this listed last night, but didn't want to drive out again. I was actually at the cemetery last night looking for potential spots that Kahuna could have hidden this one, based on a find note on another nearby cache. Had I only walked in, I probably would have found it (although it was night, so maybe not.) After getting home from that, I went out again for a new cache in Pittsford, so I didn't want to go out a third time!

I was planning to go to Canadice Lake this morning to do a cache there, mainly to grab the White Jeep TB.

I stopped here on the way there, fairly confident the FTF was still up for grabs as a couple of the other FTF hounds are out of town.

Yup - FTF at 7:00am.

Thanks for the hide!

I found it! 26 Jun 2005    The Woods  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

I neglected to check nc.com this morning when I first got up, which probably cost me the FTF.

I had a family walking REAL SLOW near the cache area, so I had to lean up against a tree and pretend to be talking on my cell phone while they walked by.

A few bugs this morning, but they weren't out in force yet.

Put the second entry in the logbook about 8:15am.

ok, I'll bite. Where is it? Coords seemed to zero out in the middle of the road, and there didn't seem to be a good spot anywhere 50 ft from there.

Took a few minutes to find Isabel, and she graciously gave me her numbers. Unfortunately, I could not find the cache at part 2.

I couldn 23 Feb 2005    Isabel's Treasure Part 2 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Today was a bad day for me. While Isabel was gracious enough to give me the numbers, I was not able to find the cache.

The area I zero'd in on seemed to match the hint, but no cache. There were some footprints in the snow around the area that looked about a week or so old. Not sure if somebody came across it?

I found it! 20 Jan 2005    Corporate Knothole  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Kahuna told me last week he had hidden a cache nearby my "Don't Jump" cache, and mentioned something about an approval problem (on the other site) because of RR tracks that were no longer active.

I took this as a cue to look at the area and find tracks that were no longer active. On 1/17, I was in the area anyway and decided to search sans coords or any other information. I searched in the completely wrong area, which would explain why I came up empty handed.

I hadn't checked navicache for new listings in a few days, and was tipped off that a new cache had been posted here. I couldn't go right away, so I thought FTF honors would be gone.

When I could go, I was able to find the cache quickly, and was surprised that nobody jumped to it before me. FTF at 8:50pm.

In all my years in Rochester, I have yet to see a baseball game. I'm not a fan of the sport, but I really should take the family sometime!

I'm going through some of my least favorites and clearing the way for others to place hopefully better caches.

I found it! 14 Sept 2004    Cash is King  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

[ my first navicache find ... all my others are on geocaching.com ]

This one has a story.

Wheely noticed a TB was placed in this cache on geocaching.com, but since the cache wasn't approved yet all we could tell was the cache name and cache owner.

Cash is King ... as in King's Bend park? Kahuna posted a note on the cache in that park indicating he scoped out that park to place a cache. Cash is King must be in that park!

Sent a note to Peppermill asking if they wanted to search the park for a unknown cache type, with no coordinates, and no idea if we're even in the right park. Of course, I knew ahead of time what the answer would be.

Shortly later we meet in King's Bend park, and start a needle in the haystack search. Kind of insane, I know, but it would have been fun to find the cache without coordinates! A throw back, of sorts, to a few weeks ago with the Magellan contest.

No luck, of course, since the cache wasn't actually in that park. Peppermill was able to find the other cache though (I had already FTF'd it a couple weeks earlier).

I got a note from Peppermill this morning saying the cache was listed on Navicache. I hope I didn't misinterpret the note - I read it as they weren't going to go, so I went solo to get it before it's listed on geocaching.com

I thought I have walked these trails before, but they didn't look familiar. As I approached the first waypoint, I saw about a dozen deer running along the RR bed. I had very erratic readings this morning, and I initially ended up on the wrong side of the trail looking for the first waypoint.

To make matters worse, I didn't know what I was looking for even though the cache listing clearly indicated what the waypoints were! Oh well, guess I should learn to RTFM first. It's not the first time I've made things harder on myself by skimming the listing.

After finding the first waypoint, it was off to the second. I headed what seemed to be the straightest direction, but I ended up having to do a little more bushwacking that I needed to.

Found the final cache easily enough, after making a few unnecessary leg stretches.

Thanks for the hide! FTF at 7:30am (or thereabouts).
