Note 22 May 2002    ROCHESTER AND AREA CACHERS GET-TOGETHER!  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I'm planning to come and will bring something sweet. Medicineman

I found it! 07 May 2002    An 'Erie' Place  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Fairly easy find once I got on the right side of the canal. Nice little park .15 miles SE from cache. Wished I'd worn my waterproof shoes though.

I found it! 07 May 2002    Casey's Joy Returns  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Glad I wore waterproof shoes. Nice park with very well maintained trail

I found it! 07 May 2002    Discombobulated Universe (retired)  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

Was really racing to find this before dark. Was worried the park would close whilst I was searching. Found the cache fairly quickly and scribbled a hurried note. I left Lucky the 3-Legged Dog travel bug but neglected to note his dog-tag number so my Geocache entry didn't take: live and learn. Looks like a nice place to visit when not pressed for time.

I found it! 22 Apr 2002    Egyptian Hike  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

This was number 13 today, and my last for the day. Left off a blue M & M hitchhiker that I picked up earlier at Joanne's Trek

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Joannes Trek  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Not that tough to spot right now but should be more of a challenge once Spring gets into high gear. Gave a ride to the blue M&M hitchhiker over to Egyptian Hike. This was my fifth or 13 caches today. Toes were rather squishy after my adventures at Wadham's Walk

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Crescent Hill  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1.5 )

Not much to say other than I enjoyed the view. This was number 6 of 13 for the day

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Wadham's Walk  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

What a comedy of errors. Guess I'll re-read the description before forging ahead.
I started down the right path but it looked like it was turning away from the cache. So I went down a different path which was much more difficult terrain. I got within 250 feet of the cache and attempted to cross about 100 feet of bog. Sank to me knees a couple of times in nice chilly muck. Was able to get within 100 feet but could go no further without hip-waders. Retraced my steps all the way back and went up the right path with no further difficulty.
After logging my entry, headed off for another nearby cache. Lo and behold there was a well defined path with a bridge not 200 feet further alon my original path. Got soaked and muddy for nothing. Live and learn. I did find out that I kind of enjoyed the squishy between the toes feeling. This was number 4 of 13 for the day.

I couldn 20 Apr 2002    Issaquah In Perinton  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Went down the well-defined path an saw 150 feet of open water to go. Decided I didn't have the gear I needed. On the way out I tried to access from a different route and was able to get within 30 feet but still didn't want to get wet, so I'' bookmark this for the next drought

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Issaquah's Pebble In A Gravel Pit  ( Difficulty: 4    Terrain: 1.5 )

No real trouble with this except that I was running a little gun-shy of Issaquah's caches (Struck out today at Troll's Treasure and Issaquah in Perinton). As I approached, I thought the GPS was going to tell me it was on the other side of the canal from the rout I approached it(which it wasn't, thankfully)

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Sams Surprise  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

No real trouble finding this one. Number 2 of 13 for the day. I ended up finding the M&M hitchhiker Dude at Joanne's Trek later in the day. We hung out all day and I left him at Egyptian Hike for the next leg of his journey

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Mendon Ponds Deer  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1 )

Didn't need the GPS to find this since a deer crossed the road headed straight for the cache just as I was pulling up. Cool skull near the cache, hint indicates deranged sense of humor.
Number 11 or 13 for the day

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Iroquois Transplanted  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Devilish hiding spot. I'd advise cachers to approach with caution until mid-May as the black flies are just starting to come out (followed me all the way back to, and into, my car. Number 7 of 13 for the day

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Cacher's Cache Can  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Number 9 of 13 for the day. Walked around and around trying to get signal lock in these heavy woods. Really took a long time to find due to GPS problems and a very good hiding job. I rehid it even better than my predecessor

I couldn 20 Apr 2002    The Troll's Treasure  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 4.5 )

My best guess is you needed the otter to place the cache. I took as many chances as I was prepared and have some ideas where it might lie, but, didn't have the gear or a back-up person to risk it. Some goofy stuff was going on with my Vista. I'd stand on the bridge where you'd expect a good reading and it would give a bearing and distance. I'd move a couple of feet in that direction and the bearing would flip almost 120 degrees away from the previous reading. If I could have seen the troll I'd have throttled him for jamming my signals

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Tinker Toy Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

With trails as groomed as these, I felt like I was breaking some kind of law by straying from them. Pretended my GPS was a camera to throw off the rangers (in my mind). My 8th of 13 for the day.

I found it! 20 Apr 2002    Mendon Ponds Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

This was number 10 of 13 for the day. I got waylayed by the sisters of alpha epsilon pi sorority who, along with their fraternity cousins were have a picnic nearby. I thought I was passing as a frat brother until somebody noticed I'm 48 and balding. Had to make a hasty exit

I found it! 14 Apr 2002    Blair Witch  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

My 7th cache and a definite learning experience. I made this 10 times harder than it needed to be by approaching from the north end of Hemlock Lake. I parked 1.17 miles North and hiked the trail. With about 3/4 mile to go the trail disappeared and I bushwacked across 8-10 steep muddy stream beds along the steep slopes of the hillside. It took 1.75 hours to get there.
If you want to try this route, stay left when you see the rock that looks like a bear. Then go uphill (right) when you see the bear that looks like a rock.

I found it! 09 Apr 2002    Issaquah In Egypt/Mayonnaise Jar 2  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2 )

Third cache for the day (my goal). I'm relatively new to this and learned a valuable lesson. Pay attention to the coordinates!! First attempt was off by 3 minutes latitude, oddly no cache found there. After correction, I found the park and trekked the trail. Seems like I had the cache surrounded so I started to bushwack. Got within 20 feet and looked down, there it was. Did'nt have my notes so wasn't expecting this type of container (thought it was trash at first). Sorry I forgot my weedwhacker. Good luck to anyone trying to get to this during the growing season.

I found it! 06 Apr 2002    Bristol Mountain Madness  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 4.5 )

Had to try finding this since it was between 'The Jumpoff' and home. Left my wife in the car and hiked, the long way, through very squishy (ankle deep) spring thaw. Once I found the trail I got a good workout. Proud of myself for finding this without any printed material from the website.
