I found it! 02 Oct 2012    Quadrivia  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

The Cachew Knutz particularly like this quadrivia because it is right beside the CSX main line at Dahlgren Junction and the Cachew Knutz are also Railroad Knutz (www.coord.info/GC2PP3K).

The picture included with this log was taken standing beside Deacon Road. As you can see from the sign in the picture, it intersects with Cool Spring, Butler and White Oak Roads; the intersection is at N3818.870' W07726.815'.

Going right onto Butler Road will take you over the CSX main line. Continuing straight through the intersection onto Cool Spring Road takes you over the current spur that was formally the military railroad called the Dahlgren Railroad. Turning left onto White Oak Road takes you through White Oak where the road name changes again to Caldeon Road, takes you past the Caledon state park and over the former Dahlgren Railroad where our RR Knutz: Dahlgren cache is hidden (www.coord.ch/OU039A).

I found it! 30 Sept 2012    Navi What? Locationless Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

We tried for a Navicache traditional cache about a year ago but it had been lost and since it was the only one listed within 40 miles of us, we never bothered to try for others. But DudleyGrunt has challenged us to be well-rounded, so we are tackling this cache, one of his locationless caches listed on Navicache.

We were headed from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Cobb Island, Maryland, future site of a Nautical Knutz cache by the Cachew Knutz, and stopped to snap this picture of the crew (using our GPSr/camera) at Navigator Lane in Dahlgren, Virginia. The street sign in the picture is at N3821.331' W07703.178'. This is a great location, not just because of the cool street name, but also because it is so close to a terrific local resource, the former Dahlgren Railroad.

The water tower in the picture sits right beside what is now the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (www.friendsdrht.org) that the Cachew Knutz hope will soon be an open public recreational trail, since the Cachew Knutz are also Railroad Knutz (www.coord.info/GC2PP3K).

Note 26 Sept 2012    Diners, Drive-ins and Dives  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

The link to the list of featured restaurants is not working, but I found this link takes you to a map of the various restaurants:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/local/index.html#////?show=Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Note 04 Feb 2012    John Marshall Birthplace  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

We should have taken the time to look at the geocaching.com cross-listing mentioned in the prior log entries (http://coord.info/GCH39M) and we would have realized that the cache had been muggled and the CO seems to have abandoned maintenance of it. But it was a nice spot and seeing the car in the creek made the visit worthwhile.

This cache has been archived on geocaching.com and the same should be done here.

So that leaves us with zero Navicaches within 40 miles of us in Chancellor, Virginia. :o(

Note 09 Jan 2012    John Marshall Birthplace  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Just registered with Navicache and found this to be the only cache within 40 miles of us, so we're adding it to our 'to do' list. Should be able to get there in the next week or so and, in the meantime, we are looking forward to making our first Navicache find.
