CACHE LOGS - May contain hints(spoilers)!   decode

I found it! 29 Dec 2003    Isabel's Treasure Part 2 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Third attempt on this one - wasn't sure what to do with the
clue the first time so didn't go looking, 2nd time we ran out of time (caching with a time limit isn't a good idea), and finally we had everything to make it work. However, a little shot of WD-40 would help for the next person! Nice 55 degree day.

I couldn 25 Jul 2003    Landing on the Moon  ( Difficulty: 4    Terrain: 3 )

We spent about half an hour searching all around the general area of the coordinates with no luck. When we got home we saw that no one has recorded any action on this cache in a year, so we're wondering if it has disappeared, or if it was just a really hard find. At least there wasn't a bunch of poison ivy in the area to impede our search!

I found it! 16 Jul 2003    Isabel's Part 1 of 2  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found her. Wasn't sure what to do with the numbers though.

Note 16 Jul 2003    Gypsum Mine II  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Interesting area. We've been the park numerous times but had never seen the artifact from the mining days. There was not lots of poison ivy but the stinging nettles were thick in places (long pants advisory).

Note 14 Dec 2002    Down in the Dumps  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Found this a week or so ago - cute idea for location.

I found it! 07 Sept 2002    My Cache Goes Where the Wild Goose Goes  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2.5 )

Nice little hike out to the cache on a pleasant sunny day. We've never been in that part of the park on foot before,
only on the water. Thanks.

Note 07 Sept 2002    Deer's Bedroom  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3.5 )

The two-part aspect of this was different--good fun. Watch out for poison ivy, however, if you're out during that season. The coordinates were dead on.

I found it! 01 Sept 2002    Graveyard Grumble Part 1 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Got it. See comments in part 2.

I found it! 01 Sept 2002    Graveyard Grumble Part 2 of 2  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Got it. This was a lot of fun! We saw some things that we'd never noticed (or at least paid any attention to) before, and the weather was wonderful. Total distance was 3.6 miles, and it took about 2 hours.

The only problem we had was that the cache site was engulfed by a very vigorous crop of poison ivy (see photo)! A good name now for this location would be "Poison Ivy Paradise." It took longer than usual to locate the box because we didn't dare wade into the ivy and tromp around. When we did finally spot it, there was no clear approach so we didn't go in to get it. Grumble, grumble, grumble! We may go back in the winter and check out the "high quality" stuff (we'll bring something from the 2-dollar store to put in the box).

Does anyone know the history of what's on top of Anna's resting place? We speculated that it was something she really liked, and she wanted to be near it forever, but we don't really know.

We also chatted with a woman who asked what the GPS was, so we told her and she's now all excited about geocaching. Who knows, maybe some day we'll hunt for one of her caches.

I found it! 28 Jul 2002    Pink Panther  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Buggy, buggy, buggy - hot, humid and muggy! The deer flies were wicked, so we didn't tarry for long. There is some poison ivy buried around so watch your step.

I found it! 06 Jul 2002    1856 Mule Path  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

We decide to stop and do this while driving by on the way to a hike. Another couple was there doing the same thing, so we each gave the other a chance to find the cache, but then we shared opening it. It was fun talking to other cachers.

The site is quite nice, especially with the nice informational displays they have about the canal, which most people are unaware ever existed. Thanks!

I found it! 06 Jul 2002    End of 18  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2.5 )

Aha! The first ones! We've been to this area before, but it is beautiful and certainly merits many repeat visits. The cache gave us a little trouble--at first the GPS was saying that it was hidden over the cliff--but we expanded our search and found it about 200 feet away in a typical hiding place.

Look closely at the photo and you'll see foliage of two different colors in the valley. We suspect that the duller, grayish green vegetation was covered with water after the big rains of a few weeks ago, while the pockets of brighter green (e.g. just to the left and a little below dead center of the photo) were high enough to have avoided submersion in the muddy water. Next time it rains hard, the evidence of the high water mark will be washed away.

Note 06 Jul 2002    End of 18  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2.5 )

Forgot to mention this in the log report - watch out for
poison ivy along the edge of the trail. Especially coming from the parking area to where the trail widens out quite a ways along; in some spots the ivy intrudes a bit into the trail. So keep your eyes out and keep the kids on the trail.

I found it! 28 Jun 2002    Bristol Mountain Madness  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 4.5 )

Nice little hike in yet another public area that we didn't
know existed. The trail was in amazingly good condition,
especially considerating all the rain recently. The
berries will probably be ripe in a couple weeks.

I found it! 29 May 2002    Goose Poop Trail  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Ha hah! First ones to find it (at least, the first ones to write in the log). The trailhead is not easy to find; look for a thin strip of woods between two yards. It's a neat little area in the midst of a whole bunch of houses, and is worth a little hike to see it (even if there weren't any geese when I went).

I found it! 28 May 2002    Dudes on the loose!  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

Sure are a lot of brambles and grape vines and things by this cache! Nobody is going to bump into this one by accident, which is a good thing. Thanks for the fun.
We saw a mommy deer and her baby on a trail not too far the cache site.

I found it! 27 May 2002    Ghost's Domain  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Great day for geocaching - sunny, just warm enough, and the honeysuckle is in bloom all over the park so everything is very fragrant. Thanks for a great time!

I found it! 27 May 2002    Ghost's Revenge!  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Second cache of the day. Good hiding spot. Thanks for a good time.

I found it! 26 May 2002    Earth Day Celebration '02  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Found the cache with the help of the Sunday hikers from the Genesee Valley chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Nice hiding place. One young woman said that she had gotten a GPS for Christmas but had not yet learned to use it, but that geocaching looked like fun and she thought she might start. That's the idea!

I found it! 19 May 2002    Issaquah's Book Exchange Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Found this cache just before going on a hike in the Rifle Range park just across the creek. Nice idea with the book exchange. We took "How to stay alive in the woods" and left "The Key to Rebecca" by Ken Follet. We want to come back and explore the park more completely some day.

I found it! 19 May 2002    Heron Bay  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

This is the second cache we found today (got Issaquah's Book Exchange earlier this morning). Nice spot--we saw two swans sitting on their nests. There is also some native azalea (very fragrant) growing along the trail near the creek and more further north by the wier. This park is called the Rifle Range (for the military rifle range that used to be located here). Elsewhere in the park you can see remnants of the range--the most obvious is the white gazebo in which the officers were said to watch the troops shooting. Members of the Adirondack Mountain Club regularly spend time maintaining these trails--thank them if you happen to see them.

I found it! 11 May 2002    Issaquah In Irondeqoit  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Nice spot. We didn't know that anyone outside of the Adirondack Mountain Club (who does Sunday hikes in various parks around the county) knew about Bay Park East. This is a good park in which to get exercise, and we got a lot of it today climbing steep hills.

My GPS led me to about 30 feet north of the box. I walked right past the spot but didn't see it; fortunately Mrs. Hiker recognized the tell-tale signs and found it. We left a bath sponge in the box (didn't take anything except a picture, #3).

Boxwood trees were in bloom, which was quite pretty, and some wildflowers. The poison ivy was also starting to show itself (yippee).

I found it! 11 May 2002    Return to Earth  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

This was our second cache today. We found it after some side trips caused by misinterpreting the GPS' estimate of bearing and distance (it looked like it was going to be on an island -- wouldn't that be an interesting twist on the game, to have a cache that is only accessible either by boat, with hip waders, or in low-water season?). We saw a great blue heron fly off as we approached.

Great spot. In fact, the last time the Adirondack Mountain Club had a Sunday hike in this park, I walked down this exact side trail thinking that it would be great place to hide a cache.

Using Mrs. Hiker's technique of looking for unnatural things, I spotted this one easily. We took nothing (except a picture) and left a hair scrunchy. If Geocaching really catches on and becomes a mainstream activity, I think I'll buy some stock in The Dollar Store.

Anyone planning to find the caches in this park had better be prepared for some STEEP hills. The main trail (yellow) avoids most of them, but also misses the cache sites.

I found it! 21 Apr 2002    Hawthorn  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

We found this a month or so ago, and forgot to post it. Gotta get those points up -- how anal can you get? (at least it beats sitting at home "Google Whacking" on the computer).

I found it! 21 Apr 2002    Morgans Adventure  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

We found this the same day as Hawthorne. The combination made for a nice walk in the park.

I found it! 21 Apr 2002    Geodecache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found this back in March but forgot to post the find. The little geodes were really neat - took just 1 to see what was inside. Can't remember what we left by now.

I found it! 21 Apr 2002    Northhampton Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1 )

Found this the same day as Geodecache, making for a nice little hike in the park.

I found it! 19 Apr 2002    CARON S CACHE  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Got there first physically, but couldn't add a log til now.
Thanks for the nifty T shirt! It was a lovely early morning for a walk; we got there at 7AM before the showers
hit. Nice spot for a cache.

I couldn 14 Apr 2002    The Troll's Treasure  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 4.5 )

The writeup was intriguing, so we headed out before a hike
to try to find the cache. No luck. We seemed to have a hard time locking in the coordinates and crossed the creek
many times following bad leads. The creek was very high
after the full day of rain yesterday. Lots of trash around, so feel free to bring bags and haul some out.

I found it! 13 Apr 2002    the bass cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

The two level cache was fun. We wished had brought trash bags, as there was a lot of trash around the first site especially. We left a stuffed toy key chain, and took nothing (but we did find a recycle bin that we took home).
It has been raining for many hours and the ground in the area was very squishy; we were glad we had waterproof boots.

I found it! 31 Mar 2002    Sprucewood  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

We were glad to see someone discover Sprucewood and put
a cache out there. It's Easter Sunday and a birthday
as well, and a lovely day for a quick cache find. The trail was a little squishy in spots with the rain we've had
recently, but not so bad you can't hop around it (if you have long legs).

Note 12 Mar 2002    ROCHESTER AND AREA CACHERS GET-TOGETHER!  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

We'll try to come at some point to meet some of the folks whose names we've been seeing on the cache reports. Unfortunately June 1 is National Trails Day and we will almost certainly be working on some trail project for a good bit of the day. Any chance of moving it to Sunday
June 2??

I found it! 07 Mar 2002    HOGS BACK VISTAS  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

This was our second attempt at finding this cache -- turns out it wasn't there the first time (or so we think). The area is quite spectacular, and today there were flocks of geese on the river. The hiding spot is very effective!

I found it! 16 Feb 2002    Highpoint  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Found this Feb. 9 while cross country skiing with friends.
They knew nothing about geocaching, so this was their first experience. GPS said we were 25 feet away from the spot
when we found it. There are quite a few downed trees in
the area. The area has features that should be quite pretty in the summer.
