Note 23 Jan 2004    New Year's Cache  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3 )

Stopped by today and dropped off a couple pens. Thanks for mentioning that, Team CSS.

On the way out, I saw a fox which darted a short ways into the brush. I was just able to discern what it was as it scampered away. Always exciting to see wildlife out here.

I found it! 08 Dec 2003    Scripps Cottage  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Easy, yes, but, as mentioned, parking is difficult. I finally decided to purchase a parking pass for one hour for a buck. Not too bad in order to avoid a parking fine or, worse, towing charges! Fairly close parking can be located at N 32° 46.525 W117° 04.585 if you can't locate anything else or don't want to hunt for better parking. This gets you about 1/4 mile away walking distance.

It was a neat location. I'm curious if Rob installed that box himself or if the college just forgot about it.

I, too, am an alumnus of SDSU (1992) but was never down near Scripps Cottage to know if it changed. I did notice a great amount of the rest of the campus has changed, though. In particular, there is now a Fraternity Row, believe it or not! You drive right by it on the way to this cache.

TNLN - thanks for the hunt Robereno.

I found it! 04 Dec 2003    Above the 'Sky  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3.5 )

I think I would have described the hike as follows: "The trail starts out as a dirt road, but ends up as an overgrown footpath, and then just ends!" Much of the last 400 feet is primarily bushwhacking.

Aside from getting a bit scratched up, the cache was a tough and interesting climb. Kept me alert. I didn't see any snakes, but I think they're in for the winter.

I enjoyed the backside view. I thought it was a golf course at first, but there is only three or four pins. Then I noticed the outdoor tennis and basketball courts which overlap each other. I think someone owns it and built their own recreation area. The pond looks pretty nice, too.

Cache is in good condition and still well hidden. TNLN. Thanks for the hunt Outta Here.
